Genshin Impact's 2.0 update will take players to the region of Inazuma, ruled by the Archon Baal. The region has been described as an isolationist nation, where there are strict rules keeping the citizens subservient and trapped within its borders. Prior to this update, little information had been given on the reclusive territory, save for a single NPC who had escaped from Inazuma to Liyue. While the Genshin Impact 2.0 story trailer hinted at some more specific details about Inazuma's leadership, there is still mystery surrounding Archon Baal and her intentions as Raiden Shogun of the Inazuman Bakufu.

The "The Immovable God and the Eternal Euthymia" trailer released by miHoYo to give Genshin Impact players a glimpse into what the latest update will include. The trailer reveals some of the primary conflicts and characters in Genshin Impact's Inazuma region, as well as the twisted politics and motivations behind these evil plots. For the most part, it appears that the Raiden Shogun of Inazuma, also known as Baal, is behind most of the crimes against the Inazuman people.

Inazuma is known as the Nation of Eternity, and is ruled over by Baal of the Electro element, who is one of the seven gods ruling over Genshin Impact's world of Teyvat. Her role as Raiden Shogun of the Inazuma Bakufu places her in a role of absolute power, freely enacting laws and restrictions throughout the land in order to isolate Inazuma and its citizens with her strict regulations. Baal has also succeeded in exiling Inazuma's spirits to the forests, speaking to her insecurity and desperation to maintain complete and total control over her territory.

Genshin Impact's Raiden Shogun Has Been Stealing Her Citizens' Visions

Genshin Impact New Inazuma Region Explained

The Archon Baal's most recent endeavor has been her relentless confiscation of her citizens' Visions. Visions are granted to mortals once they have been recognized by a god for their actions. These Visions grant the various Genshin Impact characters their astounding powers, which would be an immense threat to Baal's supremacy within the Inazuma region. The act of removing one's Visions leaves the victim with what is described as an "emptiness", effectively robbing them of their ambitions. Baal's narration within "The Immovable God and the Eternal Euthymia" trailer reveals her knowledge of this, but she is believed to have no regret for her actions. The trailer can be viewed here:

In response to her actions, a resistance has formed within Genshin Impact's Inazuma region and effectively plunged the territory into Civil War. The resistance is composed of citizens of Inazuma that have had their Visions taken, or fear having their Visions taken by the Raiden Shogun's forces. Archon Baal has dispatched her own military forces to crush this rebellion, presumably with the intention of reasserting total control over Inazuma and obtaining more Visions to accomplish her goals. Those who have stood against her are deemed "Enemies to the Eternal", as they stand in the way of Baal's plots to claim everlasting existence. Baal's regular suppressions against her own people speak to a deeper evil that will be extremely difficult to conquer.

Given the overwhelming evidence of Archon Baal's nefarious personality and intentions, it can be assumed that players will be facing a power-hungry god as one of the primary enemies of Genshin Impact's 2.0 update. While it is unknown how players will be able to interact with the Raiden Shogun of Inazuma, the information currently available speaks to the immense threat she poses. Genshin Impact Version 2.0 releases July 21, 2021.
