The Genshin Impact 2.8 update is the next patch of major content to arrive in the free-to-play RPG from HoYoverse. Ahead of the update's arrival, a new playable character named Heizou has already been teased. However, much of the update remains a mystery, despite numerous leaks showing up online. For those looking forward to seeing the newest content, here's everything to know about the Genshin Impact 2.8 release date.

The original release date for Version 2.8 was pushed back due to the delay of Version 2.7 in May 2022. This meant HoYoverse's typical six-week schedule for Genshin Impact was impacted, and that all upcoming patches were pushed back as well. HoYoverse offered free Primogems and other compensation for 2.7's delay before Version 2.7 finally arrived on May 31. Ahead of that update, HoYoverse also confirmed when Genshin Impact 2.8 would come out.

According to the official Genshin Impact social media accounts, Genshin Impact 2.8 will release on July 13, 2022. In keeping with tradition, Genshin Impact 2.8 should go live around 6 AM (UTC+8), which is when previous updates - like Version 2.7 - went up. This means a livestream for Version 2.8 should occur on or around Friday, July 1, and let fans know what to expect in the new update.

Besides Heizou, no other characters have been teased by HoYoverse yet for Genshin Impact 2.8. The update will bring an end to a lot of the Inazuma storyline featured through all 2.0 content, setting the stage for the new Sumeru region and upcoming Dendro element. Even now, so much focus is already on the major 3.0 update - and it's likely Version 2.8 will be smaller in terms of new content.

Still, there are numerous Genshin Impact 2.8 leaks and rumors out there, some of which surfaced from datamining beta tests. One of the most prominent rumors - that Kazuha would get a Banner rerun - seems all but officially confirmed now, and Klee is also allegedly getting a rerun. New skins for Fischl and Diluc are also supposedly arriving in 2.8, and players will seemingly have a chance to revisit the Golden Apple Archipelago.

Much of this information has yet to be confirmed by HoYoverse, but given the accuracy of many Genshin Impact leaks and rumors, these all seem probable. While Version 2.8 may be smaller in terms of overall content, it still looks as if there's plenty for players to look forward to - especially if they want another chance at Kazuha or want to pull for Heizou. Thankfully, the wait is almost over - since the release date for Genshin Impact 2.8 is July 13, 2022.
