Even though Version 1.4 of Genshin Impact is still underway, a lot of fans are still looking ahead at the 1.5 update. As usual, ahead of the new content arriving, there's a lot of character leaks circulating online. One of these includes Yanfei, also known as Feiyan, a legal expert from the nation of Liyue. So, does this mean Yanfei will be playable in Genshin Impact 1.5?
Yanfei is part of an alleged datamine, so it's best not to invest too much into these leaks and rumors yet. Typically, datamines and leaks for Genshin Impact are real, however, so it's certainly possible Yanfei is actually coming in the Version 1.5 content. Currently, she's one of two characters rumored for the next update, with Eula also being leaked as an upcoming playable character for Genshin Impact.
Based on the information that's surfaced so far, Yanfei is from Liyue and is a Pyro user. There's already a great number of Pyro users in the game (more than any other Element), which could indicate Yanfei will be saved for a later update instead. Additionally, Yanfei is supposed to be a catalyst user, which means many of her attacks will be magic-based and ranged. She's also rumored to be a 4-star character like Rosaria or Xinyan, which means she'll be slightly more likely to be pulled through the Wish system than 5-star Banner characters like Venti or Diluc.
Genshin Impact 1.5's Yanfei Character Rumors Explained
Even if Yanfei is a part of the Version 1.5 content, it's unlikely she'll become playable until at least late April. Developer miHoYo typically updates Genshin Impact every six weeks, but new characters aren't always immediately added at the same time. For instance, Rosaria is a part of the 1.4 update, but won't be added as a Banner character until April 6th, almost a month after the update initially launched.
There's also a lot of characters in Genshin Impact already who make more obvious choices to become playable in Version 1.5. Scaramouche and Baizhu character leaks and rumors have circulated ever since they were first seen in-game. With such unique designs, these NPCs will surely become playable eventually. And since they're in Genshin Impact already, it makes more sense to have characters like them be playable first - similar to how Rosaria was an NPC before becoming playable in Version 1.4.
For now, it's unclear when - or if - Yanfei will actually become a playable character in Genshin Impact. Until miHoYo officially announces new characters for the 1.5 update, there's just no way to know for sure.
