Generations: The Unworthy Thor and The Mighty Thor brings together Jane Foster as Thor and the original Thor from long ago, as well as revealing a past love affair of Odin's. The Generations series is a limited run from Marvel that unites some of the biggest classic heroes in the Marvel universe with the heroes that currently bear their legacy titles. When the original Thor was found to be unworthy to bear the hammer Mjolnir, it was Jane Foster who took up the Thor mantle, and it is these two who are brought together in the issue, which takes place in the distant past.

The Unworthy Thor and The Mighty Thor begins in Asgard, as a much younger Thor Odinson struggles against his father's rules, and strives to become worthy enough to lift Mjolnir from its pedestal. Called to Earth by the prayers of his Viking followers, he finds himself in a battle against Apocalypse in Egypt - where he is aided by the sudden appearance of another Thor: Jane Foster.

However, the biggest reveal of the issue comes at the end, when Thor has returned to Asgard with renewed purpose and drive to lift the hammer that would one day become his. At this point, Odin is seen in space, talking about his son - to the Phoenix Force, of all things.  It is then revealed that at one point, Odin and the Phoenix Force had a love affair. She dismisses it, and tells him not to call her again, but then embraces Odin in a passionate kiss!

Odin reveals a past love affair with the Phoenix Force

The issue doesn't reveal any more about the affair other than the fact that it happened, and even that seems to be denied by the Phoenix Force... although that kiss says otherwise! It also seems to be setting up the Phoenix of the Avengers of 1,000,000 BC - a team appearing in Marvel Legacy, debuting this month. Legacy will shake up the Marvel universe, bringing together elements of old and new for a soft reboot. With both Phoenix and Odin in the line-up, it looks like there is going to be a romantic subplot in the pre-pre-dawn of the Marvel universe for these two!

Of course, there is no guarantee that fans will be seeing this affair expanded upon in Marvel Legacy, but it stands to reason that Generations included it as a lead-in to their Legacy offering. It seems unlikely that Marvel would include this storyline between two characters who are about to take the lead in Legacy and then not pick it back up again, but fans will have to read Legacy to find out exactly what happened between Odin and Phoenix.
