The world is full of geeks and nerds, and the entertainment world is no different. There are astronomy geeks, Big Bang Theory geeks, computer geeks, film geeks, cosplay geeks, Star Trek geeks, Star Wars geeks, Marvel geeks, DC geeks, and even “geek culture” geeks.

Real-life geeks range from unattractive to gorgeous, since they’re ordinary people. That said, their geeky TV counterparts are almost always played by incredibly attractive actors. That’s the magic of Hollywood. Everybody gets to be gorgeous.

It’s time to take a look at the characters whose geeky affectations can’t hide the attractiveness of the people portraying them. These characters cover the entire spectrum of geekiness. Some are socially awkward, some have difficulties with fashion, some are brainiacs with inhuman levels of intelligence, some are techies and tinkerers, and others are sleuths and government agents whose jobs require close attention to detail and encyclopedic knowledge of a variety of interrelated disciplines.

They’ve all got two things in common: they’re geeky and the actors who portray them are totally good-looking. For a variety of reasons, the following geeky characters are played by very pretty people.

With that said, here are the 20 Geeky Characters Who Are Actually REALLY Attractive.

20. Kara Danvers from Supergirl

Melissa Benoist as Kara Kent in Supergirl e1508358914747 20 Geeky Characters Who Are Actually REALLY Attractive

Played by Melissa Benoist, Kara Danvers is Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl. Like Clark Kent before her, Kara Danvers is a geek who works as a reporter. There’s one distinct difference, though.

While Superman treats his Clark Kent persona as a disguise, Kara, in contrast, accepts who she is, saying: “Supergirl is what I can do, Kara is who I am.” Her geekiness isn’t just for show. It’s authentic. Perhaps that’s why so many fans identify with her. As a resident of Metropolis, Danvers travels throughout the Arrowverse, appearing in The FlashArrow, and Legends of Tomorrow.

Before the Arrowverse, Melissa Benoist was best known for her work on Glee. Benoist’s latest project is the 2018 miniseries Waco, a fictional retelling of the ill-fated siege at cult leader David Koresh’s Branch Davidian compound.

19. Abby Sciuto from NCIS

Abby Sciuto in CSI e1508358971439 20 Geeky Characters Who Are Actually REALLY Attractive

Abby Sciuto (Pauley Perrette) is the fan favorite Forensic Scientist on NCIS. Mini-skirts, anklets, chokers– she’s a goth geek’s dream. How she gets away with dressing the way she does isn’t satisfactorily explained, but nobody seems to mind since she’s just so good at her job. She is weirdly upbeat for someone with such morbid gothic interests– perhaps that’s her gleeful geeky side coming out.

Perrette was a mainstay of the series for fifteen full seasons from 2003 to 2017. In addition to her work on NCIS, Pauley Perrette provided the voice of Lois Lane in 2012’s Superman vs. The Elite. Known for her outspokenness on several issues, Perrette occasionally wears her politics on her sleeve at awards shows.

Perrette confirmed in October 2017 that she would not return to NCIS for season 16.

18. Amy Farrah Fowler from The Big Bang Theory

Mayim Bialik As AmyFarrahFowler in Big Bang Theory e1508358999693 20 Geeky Characters Who Are Actually REALLY Attractive

Amy Farrah Fowler fits in well among the geeks on The Big Bang Theory. After appearing in season 3’s final episode, Fowler joined the cast, first as a potential romantic match for Sheldon, then as a strictly platonic friend, and finally– as it was meant to be all along– as Sheldon’s partner and fiancée. More than just a stereotypical girlfriend character, Dr. Fowler has a PhD in Neuroscience.

Mayim Bialik became a star as the rambunctious teenager Blossom on the hit Step By Step spinoff Blossom. In fact, before The Big Bang Theory, many fans knew her as “Blossom,” and a few still do. In addition to her work on The Big Band Theory, Bialik has made guest appearances on various shows such as Blaze and the Monster Machines, Bones, and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

17. Cosima Neihaus from Orphan Black

Tatiana Maslany as Cosima Neihaus in Orphan Black e1508359096553 20 Geeky Characters Who Are Actually REALLY Attractive

A breathtaking showcase of Tatiana Maslany’s amazing range, Orphan Black is a story of intrigue, secrets, and human cloning. Of the many unique characters whom Maslany plays, none is quite as compelling, or as geeky, as Cosima Neihaus. Some geeks have no style. Neihaus is not one of them. Everyone’s favorite clone is a chainsmoking bookworm with style to spare.

For her critically lauded performances as the clones in Orphan Black, Maslany earned a Golden Globe nomination, a Primetime Emmy win, multiple ACTRA Toronto awards, and many other awards.

Tatiana Maslany’s other work includes a part in David Cronenberg’s Eastern Promises. More recently she starred as Lucy in the indie flick Two Lovers and a Bear (2016). Her latest film project is Stronger (2017) opposite Jake Gyllenhaal.

16. Astrid Farnsworth from Fringe

Astrid Farnsworth in Fringe e1508358822103 20 Geeky Characters Who Are Actually REALLY Attractive

On J.J. Abrams’ X-Filesesque series Fringe, Astrid Farnsworth (Jasika Nicole)’s friendship with Dr. Walter Bishop made Fringe a pleasure to watch. Walter can’t remember her name but their mutual respect for each other is palpable. She puts up with a lot of silliness from him. In his defense, the names he comes up with for her are quite charming: Astro, Astra, Aspirin, and Esther Ficklesworth.

Jasika Nicole is a down-to-earth goddess. If you’ve never seen her in a interview, you should because she’s adorable and funny and cute as heck. After Fringe, Nicole had a recurring role on three seasons of Scandal as Kim Munoz, as well as a recurring role on WGN’S Underground.

She is a presence on the dramatic podcasts Welcome to Night Vale and Alice Isn’t Dead.

15. Billy Cranston from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

David Yost e1508358834727 20 Geeky Characters Who Are Actually REALLY Attractive

Named after actor Bryan Cranston, who provided voices for the show, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers‘ Billy Cranston is awkward, shy, and paralyzed by an irrational fear of fish. He’s a member of the Angel Grove Science Club and just about as nerdy as they come.

Portrayed by David Yost, the original Blue Ranger set hearts aflutter every time he appeared on screen. As the Blue Ranger, he wields the Triceratops Power Coin, commands its accompanying Dinozord, and pilots the Unicorn Thunderzord.

Making Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was no fun for the actor portraying the Blue Ranger. Yost quit the show in 1996 after enduring years of on-set harassment about his sexual orientation.

Nowadays most of his showbiz work is behind the camera as a producer. He will appear in the 2018 crowdfunded unofficial Mighty Morphin Power Rangers reunion film The Order. You can catch him on the con circuit.

14. Annie Edison from Community

Alison Brie as Annie Edison in Community e1508358850829 20 Geeky Characters Who Are Actually REALLY Attractive

Community‘s Annie Edison (Alison Brie) is everybody’s geek crush. She’s an intelligent, opinionated, gorgeous, and endearingly awkward overachiever. While she is politically conservative and occasionally prudish, she’s no angel. Annie went to rehab for Adderall addiction, only to be voted most likely to succeed by her fellow recovering addicts. She’s also “comfortable with being uncomfortable” about her sexuality.

That said, she’s certainly aware of her own attractiveness, and she isn’t above using her puppy face to get what she wants. Much like a few other geeks on this list, Edison ends up putting her bookishness to good use as an FBI employee.

Outside of Community, Alison Brie played Trudy Campbell on Mad Men. She can also be seen on Netflix’s wrestling series GLOW and heard on Bojack Horseman. Her latest project is 2018’s The Post, directed by Steven Spielberg.

13. George McFly from Back to the Future

Crispin Glover as George McFly e1508358864577 20 Geeky Characters Who Are Actually REALLY Attractive

This pertains specifically to Crispin Glover’s portrayal of George McFly in Back to the Future. Jeffrey Weissman just looks creepy in that terrible makeup in the sequels. The Crispin Glover version, on the other hand, is awkward yet adorable.

Those piercing eyes, that horrid hairstyle, those silly ears, that goofy laugh… If you can see George the way Lorraine sees him, though, he’s actually quite attractive. He’s supportive, kind, and kooky. Who wouldn’t want to sit and chat with him over some chocolate milk, his favorite drink?

Following a few strange appearances on talk shows that suggested to some that Glover himself might be as awkward as the characters he played, he continued his career as a dependable character actor. Nowadays he can be seen in Starz’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods.

12. Mia Dickerson from CSI

Aisha Tyler As Mia Dickerson in CSI e1508358881583 20 Geeky Characters Who Are Actually REALLY Attractive

Aisha Tyler is fierce as Mia Dickerson, a geeky crime-solver on CSI. She wasn’t on the show for long but she made a lasting impression on fans of geek chic.

Aisha Tyler is everywhere nowadays. Until recently, she was a co-host of The Talk. She secured her geek cred by performing in AAA video games such as Gears of War 3 and Watch Dogs. She was the charming host of Ubisoft’s E3 press conference for four consecutive years.

In 2017, she replaced Drew Carey as host of Whose Line Is It Anyway?. A talented actress with knockout looks and comedic chops, Tyler provides the voice of secret agent Lana Kane in FX’s Archer. In 2016, Tyler Kickstarter-funded her directorial debut, a drama called Axis. In 2017, Tyler joined the cast of Criminal Minds.

11. Kenneth Parcell from 30 Rock

Jack McBrayer as Kenneth in 30 Rock e1508358900222 20 Geeky Characters Who Are Actually REALLY Attractive

Played by Jack McBrayer, Kenneth Parcell is a perpetually cheerful page at NBC’s studio at 30 Rockefeller Plaza. As a student at Kentucky Mountain Bible College, Kenneth majored in Television Studies and minored in Bible Sexuality. While he’s supposedly very old, he doesn’t look a day over 35. You can’t deny the appeal of those genes.

McBrayer can be seen in movies such as Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Like others on this list, he does a lot of voice-acting on shows like Phineas and Ferb. McBrayer gave a memorable guest appearance on Archer as Ray’s homophobic pot-growing brother.

In 2018, he’s reprise his role as Felix in Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck It Ralph 2. To 30 Rock fans, however, he’ll always be Kenneth.

10. Troy Barnes from Community

Donald Glover as Troy Barnes in Community e1508358926654 20 Geeky Characters Who Are Actually REALLY Attractive

All I wanted in high school was for Troy Barnes to notice me,” says Annie Edison in Community. Who can blame her? Portrayed by Donald Glover, Community‘s Troy Barnes is one attractive geek, thanks to the fact that he started out as a jock.

That isn’t to say that geeks can’t be athletic, but it isn’t a requirement either. Troy’s gradual change from self-absorbed jock to geeky goofball is one reason why Community was such a fun show. Characters actually changed.

Donald Glover is everywhere nowadays. The former 30 Rock writer has appeared in The Martian and Spider-Man: Homecoming, in addition to making great music as Childish Gambino and doing stand-up comedy. His latest project is the untitled upcoming Han Solo movie, in which he plays Lando Calrissian.

9. Lindsay Dole from The Practice

Kelli Williams The Practice e1508358938263 20 Geeky Characters Who Are Actually REALLY Attractive

Lindsay Dole, Kelli Williams’ character on the hit courtroom procedural show The Practice, is a tough Harvard-educated lawyer. She is fierce in the courtroom. The character’s geekiness, as well as her attractiveness, serve to drive her storylines in more ways than one.

Unfortunately, Lindsay Dole has more than her share of creepy admirers. It’s kind of weird how often The Practice turns into a story about Lindsay getting stalked by former clients.

Kelli Williams is incredibly attractive and has a great sense of style. Kelli Williams has appeared as a regular on Lie To Me, Army Wives, and Ties That Bind. A mainstay of primetime procedural shows, Williams has made guest appearances on shows such as The Mentalist and Law and Order: SVU.

8. Castiel from Supernatural

Misha Collins in Supernatural e1508358955218 20 Geeky Characters Who Are Actually REALLY Attractive

Castiel is an angel. No, really, he’s a bonafide angel from “the other side” on Supernatural. Since his true form is the size of the Chrysler building and impossible for human eyes to look upon without going blind, he walks the Earth in disguise as nerdy Misha Collins in a trenchcoat.

Being an angel, he fails to grasp human things like sarcasm and puns. Intriguingly, his angelic form is even hotter, according to the demon Cecily who doesn’t think much of his human form. (Blasphemy!)

Best known for playing Castiel, Misha Collins gave a haunting performance as serial killer Paul Bernardo in Karla, opposite Laura Prepon. In his downtime, Collins is an outspoken presence on social media. In 2017, he used his starpower to start a GoFundMe with the goal of purchasing lawmakers’ internet histories.

7. Fez from That ’70s Show

Wilmer Valderrama split image e1508358986568 20 Geeky Characters Who Are Actually REALLY Attractive

Originally a peripheral character, That ’70s Show‘s Fez is known for having an easygoing attitude, a limited grasp of the English language, and an implacable accent. He’s the show’s socially awkward “odd man out,” but he never seems to let it get to him.

Fez isn’t even his real name. “Fez” is a play on “Foreign Exchange Student.” Where is he from? Nobody knows. He’s a walking punchline, but he resonated with the show’s fanbase, quickly becoming a fan favorite. Fans saw Fez as a politically incorrect send-up of culturally insensitive stereotypes– like Balki Bartokomous from Perfect Strangers.

Whatever your opinion of Fez as a character, though, you must admit he’s pretty to look at, thanks to the fact that he’s played by Wilmer Valderrama. Valderrama will star as Prince Charming in the upcoming CGI animated film Charming, produced by the makers of Shrek.

6. Agent Fox Mulder from X-Files

David Duchovny Agent Mulder X Files e1508359028630 20 Geeky Characters Who Are Actually REALLY Attractive

Oxford-educated with a genius-level intellect, FBI agent Fox Mulder specializes in everything extraterrestrial. His memory is keen, his paranoia justifiable. Mulder’s baritone voice and charming eccentricities turned The X-Files into a cultural phenomenon.

As agents who investigate paranormal activity, Mulder and Scully (Gillian Anderson) crank the nerdy appeal up to 11. Characterized by mutual respect and collaboration, their professional partnership has wowed critics and fans of all genders for years.

David Duchovny went on to star as serial philanderer Hank Moody in the Showtime series Californication. His cameo in Zoolander as a retired and virtually forgotten hand-model obsessed with conspiracy theories was widely lauded.

Duchovny’s latest work includes reprising his role as Mulder in the upcoming 2018 season of The X-Files. He also appeared in drag as Denise Bryson in Showtime’s Twin Peaks. He’s also a musician and the author of the baseball novel Bucky F*cking Dent.

5. Amy Pond from Dr. Who

Karen Gillan in Dr Who e1508359067336 20 Geeky Characters Who Are Actually REALLY Attractive

In Matt Smith-era Doctor Who, Amy Pond (Karen Gillan), Amy Pond is the Doctor’s geeky Companion. While some critics considered Amy Pond to be just another “feisty redhead,” her fanbase focused on her wit, intelligence, and, of course, her affinity for geeky glasses, plaid shirts, and miniskirts.

The Ponds added some quirky humor and pathos. For fans who felt that Matt Smith’s Doctor didn’t quite measure up to David Tennant’s portrayal in the previous series, the Ponds were a reason to keep watching.

Karen Gillan appears as Nebula, Gamora’s sister and sometime nemesis in the MCU. She stole the show in Guardians of the Galaxy. Her fight scene with Gamora was a highlight of James Gunn’s runaway Marvel hit. Gillan will reprise the Nebula role in the upcoming Marvel movie Avengers: Infinity War

4. Steve Urkel from Family Matters

Jaleel White Steve Urkel Split Image e1508359081122 20 Geeky Characters Who Are Actually REALLY Attractive

It doesn’t get much nerdier than Steve Urkel. He’s awkwardness personified. Famous for his glasses, suspenders, and klutziness, Urkel became the face of the show in later seasons, thanks to fans’ response to his geeky antics.

Eventually, in later episodes, Steve became a sci-fi mad scientist of sorts, securing his place among such geeky greats as Dr. Frankenstein. That said, some fans found Urkel to be pretty annoying.

Let’s assume Steve Urkel grows up to look like Jaleel White, who, at 40, is mighty easy on the eyes. You’ve probably heard Jaleel White’s voicework. He’s the voice of Sonic the Hedgehog in the animated series. Fans can see him opposite SNL‘s Bobby Moynihan and the great John Larroquette in the CBS series Me, Myself & I.

3. Spencer Reid from Criminal Minds

Matthew Gray Gubler in Criminal Minds split image e1508359114226 20 Geeky Characters Who Are Actually REALLY Attractive

Portrayed by former fashion model Matthew Gray Gubler, Spencer Reid is one attractive savant. He’s also a bit of a weirdo with a tendency to obsess over little details. This tic comes in handy in his job as a Behavioral Analysis Unit Supervisory Special Agent, as he’s keen to notice subtle clues that others tend to miss. He’s bad with names, though, so if he forgets yours, don’t take it personally.

Gubler describes Reid as “1920s smart,” great with concepts, facts, and figures, but not all that tech-savvy. At just 30 years old, Reid holds three PhDs (Math, Chemistry, Engineering), a virtually inhuman accomplishment.

He looks good, cracks jokes, and solves crimes. Matthew Gray Gubler can be seen in 500 Days of Summer, 2017’s 68 Kill, and the upcoming 2018 romantic sci-fi flick Zoe. He’s also the voice of Simon in the Alvin and the Chipmunks movies.

2. Agent Dana Scully from The X-Files

Gillian Anderson in X Files 1 e1508359134984 20 Geeky Characters Who Are Actually REALLY Attractive

Special Agent Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) is one of the best characters in the history of television, geeky or otherwise. As a rigorous Special Agent for the FBI’s secret paranormal department, Scully keeps her professional partner Agent Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) from going too far over the deep end.

At the same time, she’s a walking contradiction– skeptical, logical, and methodical, yet devoutly religious. The equal collaboration between Scully and Mulder is a big part of why The X-Files is such a phenomenon.

Although she is best known for her performance as Scully, Gillian Anderson is a bonafide movie star. In 2017, she played Media in American Gods. She uses her starpower to bring attention to social causes, through her work with the Neurofibromatosis Network and various human rights and animal rights organizations.

1. Carlton Banks from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

Alfonso Ribeiro in Fresh Prince e1508359165289 20 Geeky Characters Who Are Actually REALLY Attractive

Endearingly portrayed by Alfonso Ribeiro, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Airs Carlton Banks is a man of many talents. He’s funny, wealthy, handsome. He’s also woefully uncool and out of touch. He is geeky in the sense that he’s a square. Despite his preppy affectations and immaturity, Carlton’s heart is definitely in the right place. It’s not unusual to find this Tom Jones fan attractive.

Ribeiro’s 2014 appearance on Dancing With The Stars was a lot of fun. He even reprised his signature dance move, the Carlton. The judges confirmed what Fresh Prince fans already knew, that Carlton’s moves are objectively irresistible.

Ribeiro and his dance partner Witney Carson won season 19’s championship. Currently, Ribeiro hosts Unwrapped 2.0 on Cooking Channel and America’s Funniest Home Videos on ABC.
