Terry Crews and Dave Bautista want to co-star in a Gears of War movie, and they seem determined to make it happen. This comes just more than a week after Bautista said he'd "tried everything" to be in a Gears movie, but "they could give AF." The Gears of War franchise began when the original Gears of War, a third-person shooter game, launched in 2006. Since then, there's been four more main-series video games, and the franchise has spawned comic book and novel series. Originally created as an Xbox-exclusive by Fortnite creator Epic Games, Gears of War is now developed by Microsoft-owned game development studio The Coalition.

Gears of War tells the continuing story of a war between humans and the Locust Horde, a faction of reptilian creatures who emerged from beneath the ground on the planet Sera. In 2016, The Coalition announced a partnership with Universal to help produce a Gears of War movie, which has been planned for years. In 2017, Universal's Gears movie recruited Avatar 2 writer Shane Salerno, but a 2018 update announced the hiring of xXx 3 writer F. Scott Frazier. Nothing much official has been heard about the movie since that announcement, but before Frazier's pick-up, Bautista said he was actively pursuing Gears of War's Marcus Fenix role - the early games' main character. Apparently his efforts have been unsuccessful, however.

Still, it seems the idea of Bautista's Gears of War role isn't dead. When actor and director Stephen Ford tweeted about the idea of Bautista and Crews starring in a Gears movie together, Crews retweeted his comment, adding that he liked the idea. Crews later tweeted a photo of himself and Bautista together, emphasizing his enthusiasm for the idea.

Bautista tweeted the next day that he would "likewise" like to be in the Gears movie with Crews - and "if not this than [sic] any movie" with Crews. Finally, Crews responded yet again, stoking the fire of the idea in capital letters.

If it's true that Bautista's efforts to get into the movie have been fruitless, it's hard to say why. Many fans of the series might say he's a good fit for the Marcus Fenix role, and his big-screen chops have already been proven by Guardians of the Galaxy and subsequent Marvel titles. Maybe it's a problem of budget, and so the Gears of War movie team perhaps can't afford an actor like Bautista. While the future of the Gears of War movie is still unknown, a Crews-starring Gears movie wouldn't be Crews' first acting foray into video games. Crews previously became the face of Crackdown 3 and voiced a character in Saints Row IV. Perhaps the combined muscle of a Crews and Bautista tag-team could get the two into the Gears of War movie.
