There is a wide variety of Troops and Hero Units to recruit in Gears Tactics each having their own unique appearances, and some being way more powerful than others. Some of these units can be unlocked through recruitment while others are unlocked by playing through the story. One of these story characters is Augustus Cole, and while in and of himself he is a great Hero Unit, he gets even better with the rare Thrashball Cole outfit.

Augustus "Cole Train" Cole is a fan favorite of the series and was once a successful Thrashball player. Thrashball, similar to real-world American football, was a very popular sport in Gears universe. Cole left his time in the limelight behind to join the military as a Gear soldier. However, players can unlock the Thrashball Cole armor to bring Cole back to his glory days, and to also give their team the advantage on the battlefield.

How to Unlock Thrashball Cole in Gears Tactics

First and foremost, Augustus Cole is a Hero that any player can unlock after progressing through the story to Act 1 Chapter 4. Here Cole will join the player's team regardless of whether they have completed the necessary steps to unlock his Thrashball outfit. He is a hero unit which means he must survive every battle he is brought in to, but that should not be a problem since Hero units are generally stronger than most regular troops.

In order to unlock Thrashabll Cole and enhance Cole's abilities, players must have either pre-ordered the game, played the game before May 4th, or have played the game using the Xbox Game Pass on PC. While the first two options are now reserved for time travelers, anyone can play the game using the Xbox Game Pass so long as they have a PC and are willing to cough up $4.99 a month.

So technically, to unlock Thrashball Cole players will need to pay $4.99, but is he worth the price? While he doesn't play a major role in the story, Thrashball Cole is a very strong early-game unit who can carry teams through battles. He has increased protection from his football pads and uses his Retro Lancer to tear through enemies. While he may not be the most interesting character in terms of story content, fans of the series will be more than happy to have Thrashball Cole as a novelty hero on their team.
