Gears Tactics keeps a fully stocked arsenal of characters each fitted with their own classes and customization capabilities. As a turn-based tactical shooter, it is up to players to upgrade their characters, put together a team, and wipe out the locust threat looming over the planet; or underneath it rather. Gears Tactics developed by Splash Damage and The Coalition is the first of the Gears of War franchise to introduce a class and turn-base-system where movement, abilities, weapons are very restricted. Meaning every class and weapon included with the character is always locked and cannot be changed. Fortunately, every class has deep customization allowing every character collected to feel individual and unique from the others, giving their weapons and skills new life even if the base classes are the same.

Gears Tactics employs plenty of difficult scenarios that can escalate at any moment, pushing players to think beyond what is immediately in front of them. Utilizing cover is the only way to stay alive, otherwise quickly becoming wretch food won't be the least of all worries. This guide explains the purpose of Troops and how to acquire more as the game progresses.

How To Acquire Troops in Gears Tactics

After players rescue Marcella and Tyrone, the next objective will send players on a search and rescue mission for the remaining members of echo five. Once rescued, just as the previous mission the rescued gears will join the squad and fight against the Locust until the mission is completed. Recruiting is officially unlocked in the Barracks menu and will allow players to permanently add the two new troops Marcella and Tyrone to the current roster. Troops are refreshed every two missions so if players do not grab those currently available within the Recruit menu, all troops listed and not obtained will be removed and replaced by another random set of Troops. Completing campaign missions will raise the number of troops that can be held within the roster as well as the number of troops available in the recruitment menu.

Like the Heroes, troops can only be leveled up through playing them so switching them in and out will help keep a balanced roster. There classes and weapons are also fixed and cannot be changed at any point in time. Troops also may come with unique buffs personal to them that might be attached to a piece of armor or their weapon. Unlike Heroes, Troops are expendable and can be replaced at any moment in time. Either by dying on the battlefield, or deleting them from the menu, Troops are semi-permanent to the roster when recruited. Troops dying, however, do not immediately reset the Recruitment menu so make sure to have a full roster and make sure to spend those skill points wisely giving enough flexibility to the team!
