Alongside optimizations for the Xbox Series X|S, Gears 5 has added in a lot of new content and features for multiplayer this week. That's exciting for fans of the series who are looking forward to experiencing the game on Microsoft's newest consoles. The new Gears 5 content comes in the form of Operation 5: Hollow Storm, which is also the game's largest operation to date.

The new Gears 5 update doubles the amount of multiplayer content for the Xbox Series X|S at launch. It comes with some major quality-of-life improvements, the most noticeable of which may be the new separation of classes and characters. This gives Gears 5 players more flexibility and freedom in playstyles, as well as offering more customization options in multiplayer.

Operation 5: Hollow Storm focuses on battles from Gears of War 2 and Gears of War 3, which is why longtime fans of the franchise should adore it. It also brings back some fan-favorite characters and at least one classic weapon: the Scorcher. This flamethrower was a fan-favorite weapon from Gears of War 2, and it's great that it's being added to Gears 5. It's just one of the many ways Gears 5 is giving players what they want.

New Characters & Maps In Gears 5's New Update

The newest update to Gears 5 is also adding in seven characters, including fan-favorites like Dizzy Wallin and Anya Stroud. The new characters are available individually or as a bundle. Gabe Diaz is also available to unlock for free after completing the Gears Tactics tutorial. And since the new update separates classes from characters, these new additional characters can potentially be played in completely new ways. So, even if players have been away from the game for a while, it's a good time to come back.

Hollow Storm also includes five new maps, including the Imulsion-themed Nexus map. There are 13 new achievements and a refined PvP experience for players to enjoy. A new Tour of Duty has been added, as well as a new Heroic cosmetic. All of this means the newest Gears 5 update is the biggest one yet - and there's even more DLC coming soon.

Although the Xbox Series X|S isn't releasing with any major new exclusives like Halo: Infinite this year, the new content in Gears 5 is a great incentive to check out the game on a new console. Operation 5: Hollow Storm is a major themed update that brings new characters, maps, achievements, and a new weapon into Gears 5 multiplayer.
