Garmin has already announced a handful of new smartwatches in 2022 and is now set to unveil a new fitness tracker. Garmin sells its fitness trackers under the Vivosmart line, but unlike some of its other wearables, doesn't refresh the line quite as often. The Vivosmart 4 is the most recent model in the series and was launched back in September 2018.

Not everyone wants to wear a smartwatch to keep track of their health and physical activity. There can be a number of reasons for this, such as finding them too large or too heavy, which makes them uncomfortable for wearing over prolonged periods. For these consumers, a fitness tracker usually works out better considering they tend to be small and light enough to be worn, and even for extended periods of time.

The new fitness tracker from Gamin is reportedly going to launch as the Vivosmart 5 and an early leak has now revealed it will come with some significant design changes. As reported by Winfuture, the fitness tracker will sport a larger display when compared to its predecessor, resulting in a 66 percent increase in size. The images do show that the screen is indeed wider which should translate to texts on the screen being more easily visible. It also might be possible for the Vivosmart 5's straps to be replaced, as there are no visible screws unlike with the 2018 model.

A Refreshed Fitness Tracker Design

The Vivosmart 5 has a bigger display

Garmin is sticking to silicone for the textured straps but the metal accent around the display is gone as is the metal clasp. When it launches, it will be available in Black, White, and Mint Green. According to the information, a second black variant with a bigger strap will also become available. While the appearance has changed, the same can't be said for the specs and features.

The Vivosmart 5 will have a Pulse Ox sensor for blood oxygen monitoring and a sensor for heart rate measurements. The wearable will also feature sleep tracking with the addition of a sleep score to determine sleep quality. There's also a step counter, stress tracking, hydration tracking, and body battery energy monitoring. The fitness tracker also has a built-in sports app for recording activities such as running, swimming, cycling, and cardio. While there is no built-in GPS module, it can take advantage of one inside a connected smartphone.

The Vivosmart 4 will also be able to display messages on the screen and support app notifications. The battery life remains unchanged at 7 days, according to the report, which is not bad considering the OLED display is now larger. Even though there's currently no word on pricing or availability, it is unlikely Garmin's Vivosmart 5 will cost less than its predecessor's $129 launch price.
