A thrilling Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 reveal could be in the cards after actress Zoe Saldana made remarks regarding her two lead characters, Neytiri and Gamora. Saldana has portrayed both alien women wonderfully since 2009's Avatar and 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy. Most recently she reprised her role as Neytiri in the sequel Avatar: The Way of Water although Gamora was absent from the recent Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special.

While the original Gamora that Peter Quill fell in love with during the first two Guardians movies is almost definitely dead for good, after Thanos sacrificed her for the soul stone, a variant of her now exists in 616. Meaning Gamora is still alive because a 2014 version of her slipped into the regular MCU timeline, but because 2014 Gamora hasn't had the experience of bonding with Peter and the other Guardians she is much more hostile and almost exactly like the Gamora first introduced at the beginning of the original Guardians of the Galaxy.

How Gamora's Avatar Comparison Sets Up A Hopeful GOTG 3 Ending

In a recent Screen Rant Exclusive interview, Zoe Saldana broke down the similarities and differences between her characters further while discussing the release of Avatar: Way of Water. For example, both women are strong-willed warriors who are fiercely protective of their families, whether those families are by blood or chosen family. While Neytiri and Gamora have many similarities the two movies and two characters certainly have their differences. She explained that one major difference is that, "Gamora is a lot more resolved with making, finding her inner peace."

However, Gamora seemed to be in a very volatile place when audiences last saw her in Avengers: Endgame, certainly nowhere close to inner peace. This suggests that Saldana could be speaking to her own knowledge of Gamora who will return to meet the Guardians in the upcoming threequel. It's possible that 2014 Gamora, despite leaving the Guardians and not making an appearance since Endgame, would want to find out what her other self was like which drives her to rejoin Peter and the gang.

Guardians Of The Galaxy's Holiday Special Supports A Happy Gamora Ending

While Gamora wasn't present for the GotG: Holiday Special, the team's dynamic throughout sets up a happy ending for Gamora which will hopefully pan out on screen during GotG Vol. 3. While the driving factor that kick-started Mantis and Drax going to Earth is the fact that Peter is sad about losing her, the special doesn't revolve around Peter's misery. Instead, it focused on the team's family-like bond and the unique sibling bond between Mantis and Peter, which makes it clear that the MCU is not positioning the Guardians as still being emotionally devastated or blaming 2014 Gamora for her departure from the Guardians.

While Peter Quill is seen searching for 2014 Gamora at the end of Avengers: Endgame it is unclear if the Guardians were ever able to locate her. However, leaked footage has shown that Gamora will be appearing as the leader of the Ravagers in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. Given Saldana's remarks about Gamora finding inner peace, hopefully, that means she will reconnect with the Guardians and get the happy ending she deserves in what is likely the last installment of the Guardians.
