It didn't take long for Tyrion Lannister to become the most popular character on Game of Thrones. While he made plenty of enemies, from Joffrey Baratheon to Catelyn Stark, he also made a number of great allies throughout his journey in Westeros and beyond.

As with most relationships in Game of Thrones, some of these friendships eventually turned deadly. Others started out quite hostile before Tyrion's charms turned enemies into friends. And though Tyrion had issues with his family, he seemed to make for one of the best friends on Game of Thrones.

Daenerys Targaryen

Despite her sometimes violent dark side, Daenerys also made a lot of friends throughout the series. But it was her bond with Tyrion that was the most surprising and it ended up being quite fulfilling for both of them.

Daenerys was in need of someone who could counsel her on being a ruler while Tyrion sought someone who valued his skills and intelligence. While their falling out was devastating, moments like when Daenerys named Tyrion the Hand of the Queen showed how close they once were.

Sansa Stark

Seeing as they were forced into marriage together, it's hard to say Tyrion and Sansa were friends from the beginning. But putting aside the awkwardness of their arrangement, they were actually an ideal pair of friends during their time in King's Landing.

Tyrion was the only one who sympathized with Sansa's loss of her family while Sansa knew Tyrion was not as horrible as the other Lannisters. When they reunited in Winterfell, after everything they had been through, it was clear they had great respect for one another.

Yoren

Yoren meets with Ned Stark in Game of Thrones

Though his time on the show was brief, Yoren was one of the most likable members of the Night's Watch and briefly became Tyrion's traveling companion. They first met at Castle Black when Tyrion was visiting and quickly became friends.

While some of the other Night's Watch brothers were overly serious, Yoren was happy to drink and joke around with Tyrion. When Tyrion learned Yoren was also heading to King's Landing, he decided the two new friends should share the road together. Had Tyrion not been arrested by Catelyn, they might have had a fun road trip together.

Jorah Mormont

The relationship between Jorah and Tyrion started out harshly as Jorah captured Tyrion to deliver to Daenerys. They were then forced to travel across Essos together, but unlike Yoren and Tyrion, they didn't have much in common in the beginning.

After going through some dangerous situations together and sharing moments of vulnerability, the animosity between Jorah and Tyrion faded. When they met again, it is was friends rather than the enemies they once were.

Shagga

Once again, Tyrion began his relationship with Shagga in a tense way as the fearsome member of the mountain tribes tried to decide how to kill him. But Tyrion's wit immediately won over Shagga, who spared his life. In one of Tyrion's best political moves, he convinced the mountain tribes to become his own personal army, led by Shagga.

Though Shagga was not someone Tyrion could have an intellectual conversation with, the two men from very different worlds seemed to like each other. Shagga even gave Tyrion the nickname "Half-Man," which became a title of honor.

Davos Seaworth

Davos and Tyrion met late in the series but it became clear quite quickly that they shared a lot in common. These were men who were underestimated by those around them yet still managed to rise up to positions of power.

Though neither Tyrion nor Davos were rulers themselves, they were the kind of men rulers needed in their corner. They both represented the rational and grounded thinking for Jon and Daenerys, which wasn't always an easy position. Tyrion clearly recognized Davos's value and made him Master of Ships in the finale.

Jon Snow

Jon and Tyrion met in the first episode of the series and quickly bonded over the fact that they were the outcasts of their families. It was Tyrion who taught Jon not to hide from who he was because the world would never let him forget it anyway.

Even as their journeys took them to strange places and saw them rise to powerful positions, they always seemed to share that bond as outcasts. Tyrion even saw Jon as someone who could rule as king instead of Daenerys.

Podrick Payne

Podrick Payne didn't seem like much of a squire for Tyrion at first. But Podrick is yet another character who was more impressive than people gave him credit for and became an underrated hero on Game of Thrones. After he saved Tyrion's life during the Battle of Blackwater, they really formed a friendship beyond Podrick's role as a servant.

Podrick was extremely loyal, not wanting to leave Tyrion even after he was arrested for Joffrey's murder. Likewise, Tyrion sent Podrick away with Brienne to ensure his safety. It became a sweet friendship that was little like a father-son relationship.

Bronn

At times, it did feel as though Bronn's friendship with Tyrion was based solely on money. While much of his loyalty was tied to how much Tyrion can pay him, Bronn couldn't help but show his affection for Tyrion at times.

They shared a similar outlook of the world, especially their tendency to rebel against authority. They also shared a sense of humor and were terrific drinking buddies together. It's true that Bronn was not willing to risk his life against The Mountain for Tyrion, but he still cared about what happened to him.

Varys

As the Master of Whispers, Varys knew all the secrets, but his motivations were always mysterious. As a result, Tyrion didn't trust Varys much when he first arrived in King's Landing but they eventually realized they were very much on the same side.

They shared the same concerns, hated the same people, and were working towards the same goal. It was after Varys helped Tyrion escape to Essos that their friendship really grew. While they would tease each other, they enjoyed each other's company more than any others. The fact that Tyrion betrayed Varys to Daenerys was probably the thing he most regrets.
