Finishing a story is no easy task, but Game of Thrones' series finale may go down as one of the worst of all-time. Based on the acclaimed novels by George R.R. Martin, HBO hired David Benioff and D.B. Weiss to adapt the books to the small screen over a decade ago. An epic fantasy series starring several unknown young stars, it was difficult to imagine that Game of Thrones would become as popular as it did. This is seen just by taking a glance at the ratings for this final season, which repeatedly set series highs before the finale took the crown as the most watched single episode of programming in HBO history.

All of these viewers continued to tune in to Game of Thrones to see how the divisive eighth and final season would wrap up. Given the overall conversation about the last season, it didn't come as a total surprise that the finale also split viewers. Plenty of them enjoyed the finale for what it was, but there has also been a very vocal section of the fandom who were not pleased with the decisions made in the end.

In Screen Rant's latest video, we take a look at some of the biggest reasons fans are hating on the Game of Thrones finale. A lot of these problems stem from decisions made in the past and the rushed nature of the final two seasons, which came as a result of Benioff, Weiss, and their now incredibly famous cast all being ready to move on. Check out the video featured at the top of this post to learn about all of the various reasons Game of Thrones' finale will go down as one of the worst of all-time.

As discussed in the video, one of the key reasons the finale - and really the final season - was so unsatisfying to fans was the number of plot points that were dropped entirely or introduced only not to get any payoff. On top of these dangling questions surrounding why Jon being a Targaryen or Cersei being pregnant were vital to the story, there were also several unfulfilled prophecies.

But, another major point of contention is how different characters arcs evolved and ended. Tyrion went from being one of the smartest people on Game of Thrones to a fool and is then responsible for delivering a rousing speech supporting Bran to be their ruler. The redemptive arc for Jaime was undone so he could die with Cersei, and then Daenerys' evil turn didn't feel earned entirely, even though the seeds of it go back several years. But, even though the finale may not have lived up to expectations for many, Game of Thrones is far from the only show to have a controversial ending and will not be the last.
