WARNING: Spoilers for Game of Thrones season 8, episode 4.

New images for the fifth episode in season 8 of Game of Thrones tease the imminent battle at King's Landing. The hit HBO show is currently in the midst of its final season, with only 2 episodes remaining. The shortest season of the show has answered a lot of questions in the first four episodes, but episode 5 will bring fans that much closer to discovering who will sit atop the Iron Throne at the end of the series.

Now that the Night King and the Army of the Undead have been defeated, the heroes are shifting gears towards the fight against Cersei. In the last episode, Daenerys' fleet was attacked by Euron Greyjoy, which resulted in the death of Rhaegal and the capture of Missandei, who was later executed by the Mountain. The episode also saw the return of Cersei, who was absent from the episodes "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" and "The Long Night". Fans have already gotten a trailer for season 8 episode 5, but new photos from the episode have now been released.

A group of new photos released by HBO tease what's in store for the characters in the upcoming episode. The batch of photos contain several solo shots of characters like Daenerys, Tyrion, Euron, Grey Worm, and Cersei, but these don't reveal a whole lot about the upcoming episode. There are also photos of Varys talking to Jon, as well as images of the two opposing forces and armies who will be fighting to secure King's Landing. All nine of these photos can be viewed below.

Emilia Clarke as Daenerys in Game of Thrones
Jacob Anderson as Grey Worm in Game of Thrones

While the final season of Game of Thrones was one of HBO's most anticipated returns, fans haven't been overly happy with the way the season has been going. The cinematography was heavily criticized in "The Long Night", but the most recent episode has also gotten its fair share of criticisms. One issue that caused mass hysteria online was that Jon didn't give Ghost a proper goodbye, while fans also thought Rhaegal died too easily, and that Daenerys should have seen Euron's fleet coming. Silly mistakes like a Starbucks coffee cup making it into the episode also sparked a wave of memes online. Needless to say, many fans are hoping that the next episode will start to turn the season around (even though it's almost over).

There's no way to know for sure what is happening in these photos, but some predctions can be made about the next episode. Episode 4 saw loyalties start to sway from Daenerys over to Jon, which could be why Varys is talking to Jon in one of the images. The image of Daenerys also looks like she is mourning the loss of Rhaegal and Missandei, but her grim expression could be from a lose at King's Landing if Cersei is able to hold the city. After all, a lot of Daenerys' soldiers were lost in the war against the White Walkers, so it's possible that Cersei could end up victorious in the next episode. Regardless of what these images mean, fans don't have to wait too much longer to watch the next episode of Game of Thrones.
