Game of Thrones is finally in full-on promo mode for its upcoming seventh season, which premieres on July 16. Details about the truncated seven-episode season have trickled out over time, but there has been very little for fans to sink their teeth into as far as actual content from the show. The first teaser for Game of Thrones season 7 came out on March 9, teasing the “Great War” to come.

But aside from Westeros’ battle against impending doom in the “Great War,” the Iron Throne in King's Landing remains a point of contention for three key characters. Cersei Lannister, who currently controls the throne, will have to deal with Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen in the coming season. A brand-new promo for Game of Thrones’ seventh season highlights their much-anticipated showdown.

The official Game of Thrones YouTube channel premiered the new promo for season 7 online, as you can see in the space above. Spotlighting the parallels between the three characters' respective rises to power, the promo depicts Jon, Daenerys, and Cersei all approaching and sitting on each of their thrones. The promo ends with Cersei taking a breath of cold, wintry air, as the promo hints at the arrival of the White Walkers in King’s Landing.

The first promo for season 7 offered a similar hint at Westeros’ “Great War” with the White Walkers, but the new promo puts more of the spotlight on Cersei, Jon, and Daenerys. Those three figure to be at the center of both their own battles with each other and Westeros’ ultimate need to unite against the White Walkers. It’s clear that, even with the Great War looming, the coming war between the trio and their respective armies will be one of the major narratives driving season 7.

Though Game of Thrones’ final two seasons feature fewer episodes than the standard 10, reports indicate that each season will be much bigger in terms of scale. Kit Harrington hinted at a more visually ambitious, action-packed season - a bold statement, considering season 6’s epic Battle of the Bastards. Daenerys’ dragons in season 7 are said to be the size of airplanes. And of course, the stakes are going to be higher than they’ve ever been for everyone involved.

The new promo is sure to get Game of Thrones fans excited for the new season, but the show’s promotion didn’t exactly get off to the best start. Creators D.B. Weiss and David Benioff called HBO’s premiere date announcement an “embarrassing” stunt after the network’s Facebook Live stream malfunctioned and left fans frustrated. Still, these new shots of Cersei, Jon and Daenerys should get things back on the right track.
