HBO has released a new full length trailer for 'Game of Thrones' season two - featuring plenty of familiar faces as well as the introduction of new fan-favorite characters.

Game of Thrones Season 2 Trailer

While season one of HBO's Game of Thrones, an adaptation of the George R. R. Martin novel series, A Song of Ice and Fire, was always expected to do well with fantasy lovers, the show went-on to become one of the most talked about TV properties of 2011 - even among mainstream viewers. As a result, it's no surprise that buzz for Game of Thrones season two, set to premiere on April 1st 2012, has been building to a fever pitch.

Now, with only one month left before the show returns, HBO has released an evocative new full length trailer for season two - promising plenty of thrilling twists, epic battle sequences, and captivating character moments.

Over the course of the last few months, HBO has unveiled a steady stream of marketing - featurettes, trailers, and promotional materials - that introduce new Game of Thrones players as well as fan-favorite returning faces. While the various sneak peeks have managed to keep plenty of details concealed - there's no doubt that viewers should prepare for an equally bloody, heart-breaking, and of course thrilling, sophomore season.

Especially evocative use of the Florence + the Machine track, "Seven Devils" sets the stage for an engrossing look at the upcoming season, which picks up right where season one ended, with the fickle and self-serving rule of King Joffrey Baratheon (Jack Gleeson) as well as the growing threat from Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and the Dothraki army.

Fans of the prior season (not to mention the books) should also be especially excited to see an even more resolute Tyrion Lannister (Emmy Award Winner, Peter Dinklage) - who is featured heavily in a lot of the season two marketing thus far.

Of course, with the exit of some major season one characters, HBO will also be showcasing plenty of fresh meet for the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros - including the much anticipated introduction of Brienne (Gwendoline Christie), a member of Renly Baratheon's Rainbow Guard, Balon Greyjoy (Patrick Malahide), lord of the Iron Islands, as well as Ygritte (Rose Leslie) whose storyline is closely tied with Jon Snow, aka the bastard, (Kit Harington).

Exactly how closely season two will follow in-line with Martin's second book, A Clash of Kings, is still up in the air. However, with plenty of fresh faces as well as the ever-intriguing source material, it's unlikely that Game of Thrones, the TV show, is going to experience much of a sophomore slump.

Game of Thrones season two premieres April 1st, 2012 on HBO @9pm. Check out season one on Blu-Ray and DVD starting March 6th.
