Game of Thrones: Beyond the Wall is Behavior Interactive's new video game based on HBO’s hit fantasy drama. The mobile title marks next interactive project based on George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire books.

Game of Thrones’ eighth and final season may have burned some fans, but that hasn’t stopped new, related projects from getting the greenlight. Development has begun on a Targaryen prequel series after HBO cancelled its planned The Long Night show. Besides TV, the show has a lengthy track record in video games. Telltale’s episodic Game of Thrones ran from 2014 to 2015; however, the studio’s closure killed a planned second season. Mobile strategy game Reigns released a Game of Thrones version of the game in 2018. Another mobile game, Game of Thrones Ascent, launched in 2013 and was shut down in early 2019.

Per GameSpot, Game of Thrones: Beyond the Wall is a mobile RPG that puts players in the role of Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch. Their job: mobilize the watchmen to defend The Wall from invaders. Squads consist of fighters hailing from across the Known World such as crossbowmen from The Westerlands and exotic fighters from The Free Cities. Despite serving as a prequel to the show, players can also recruit Hero characters including Jamie Lannister, Melisandre, and Daenerys Targaryn. Heroes come in several gameplay variants and boast unique abilities. Jon Snow, for example, can use his leadership skills to boost ally skills. Strategically assembling squad rosters is key to winning the grid-based battles. In addition to slaying enemies in-game, players can also face each other in PvP encounters.

Beyond the Wall promises to be a story-driven experience. The narrative centers around Lord Commander Byrnden Rivers’ (A.K.A. “Bloodraven”) disappearance beyond The Wall decades before the War of the Five Kings. The story promises to touch on the mysteries of what lies beyond the Night's Watch's gaze as well as the Three-Eyed Raven. The game may take place at The Wall, but players will foster relationships with other regions in order to recruit unique allies. These locations include the North, the Crownlands, and Essos, among others. As players enlist more help from a certain Kingdom, their Regional Affinity with that area increases. A higher Affinity with a region leads to better soldiers and items, so players will have to consider which relationships to maximize.

Game of Thrones: Beyond the Wall launches March 26 for iOS and April 3 on Android. Pre-registering on the App Store or at the game’s website rewards players 10 Shards of Daenerys, with additional pre-order milestones promising 10 Carved Glpyhs, 90 Shards of Jon Snow, and 100 Shards of Jon Snow.
