The Game of Thrones political landscape is an ever changing battlefield. Decades long alliances can turn into a centuries long feud at a moments notice, while unlikely allies can be found out of the most bitter of enemies.

There have been so many changes in the great Houses of Westeros over the past few seasons that it's difficult to keep track. As such, it's good to check in and see where the political landscape stands. Here's a Breakdown of House Alliances and Feuds in Game of Thrones for anyone who's still confused about who wants to kill who.

ALLIANCE: HOUSE BARATHEON AND HOUSE STARK

From the beginning of the show, the bond between the Starks and the Baratheons was shown as strong and unshakeable. As young boys, Ned Stark and Robert Baratheon started a war that changed the landcape of Westeros forever.

While the Baratheon's have been all but wiped out at this point, the friendship between bastards Jon Snow and Gendry show that some friendships transcend generations.

ALLIANCE: HOUSE STARK AND HOUSE ARRYN

The Starks and Arryns have been allied for decades, dating back to Ned Stark living with Jon Arryn as a young boy. While remaining neutral in Robb Stark's fight for the throne, the Arryns made up for their past failings by saving the day at the Battle of the Bastards, turning the tide of the battle in Jon Snow's favor and allowing the Starks to retake Wintefell from the Bolton's.

When it comes down to the wire, the Arryns have always had the backs of the Starks.

FEUD: HOUSE BARATHEONAND HOUSE TARGARYEN

After his true love Lyanna Stark was abducted by Rhaegar Targaryen, Robert Baratheon called for war on the Targaryen's. Robert's Rebellion toppled the centuries old dynasty in the process.

When Lyanna was found dead in a tower, a grief-striken Robert called for the extermination of the Targaryen's, an anger he carried to the end of his days and led to the self-imposed exile of Daenerys at the start of the series.

ALLIANCE: HOUSE STARK AND HOUSE TULLY

An alliance born of marriage, these two houses are responsible for the current generation of Starks. During Robert's Rebellion, young Eddard Stark was promised to wed Caitlyn Tully, joining the two houses. While it was an arranged marriage, the young couple quickly felt a passionate romance blossom.

They went on to have four children together (adding in a bastard son and a young ward for good measure). House Tully may be under the Lannister's thumb for now, but the defiant last acts of the Blackfish show that there were still several Tully's who held true to their alliance with the Starks.

FEUD: HOUSE MARTELL AND HOUSE LANNISTER

At the end of Robert's Rebellion, the Targaryen's were in dire straights, forced from their homes and eventually slaughtered. A victim of this onslaught included Elia Martell, sister to Prince Oberyn Martell of Dorne. Elia had married the kings oldest son Rhaegar Targaryen and given birth to two children.

On the Lannister's orders, her children were viciously murdered in front of her and she was assaulted and killed by The Mountain. The Martell's have had a fury and hatred towards the Lannister's ever since, doing everything in their power to cripple and hurt them.

ALLIANCE TURNED FEUD: HOUSE BARATHEON AND HOUSE LANNISTER

After the end of the Rebellion, Cersei Lannister was promised to Robert Baratheon, making her Queen and their Houses united in marriage. This shining ideal of Houses united almost immediately soured upon Robert's descent into a drunk, lecherous ruler.

After Robert's death, his brothers Stannis and Renly both laid claim to the throne, with Stannis defeated by the Lannisters and Renly betrayed by Stannis. As such, the Lannisters appear to have won the day with this House, although Gendry may have something to say about that in this final season.

FEUD: HOUSE STARK AND HOUSE LANNISTER

The feud that has been the driving vehicle of the entire series, the machinations of the Lannisters against the Starks has been why viewers tune in week after week. From the beheading of Ned Stark to Robb Stark's war against the crown, it's been a game of Tug of War between the two Houses for years now.

Nearly weakened and defeated by the Lannisters, the Starks have made an enormous come back and now sit poised to take the crown for Daenerys and Jon. We'll see what ultimately happens in this final season, but as we were told by Cersei all the way back in Season 1, "In the Game of Thrones you either win or die", and that appears to be true of these Houses fight for the top.

ALLIANCE: HOUSE BARATHEON AND HOUSE TYRELL

Our first introduction to the Tyrell's is seeing Margery Tyrell betrothed to Renly Baratheon. Despite Renly's preference for men, Margery does not mind; as long as she's made queen, he can do whatever he wants.

The death of Renly from Melisandre and Stannis Baratheon ended this marriage though, and allowed the Tyrell's t make another play for the crown.

ALLIANCE TURNED FEUD: HOUSE TYRELL AND HOUSE LANNISTER

While the Tyrell's initially backed Stannis Baratheon claim to the throne, the Tyrell's last second rescue of the Lannisters at the Battle of Blackwater Bay briefly united the two houses. Scared of Margery ascension to the throne, Cersei arranged a plot to kill off the Tyrell's, thus bringing them back to enemies.

The Lannisters may have brought an end to the once great house, but it was Olenna Tyrell that got the last laugh, revealing on her death bed that she had been the one to orchestrate Joffrey's murder.

ALLIANCE TURNED FEUD: HOUSE STARK AND HOUSE FREY

Arya Stark kills Walder Frey as revenge for the Red Wedding in Game of Thrones

Traditionally these two Houses were allies via the Stark's marriage with the Tullys. Robb Stark had agreed to marry one of Walder Frey's daughters or granddaughters in return for their assistance in fighting the Lannisters.

When Robb instead married a common woman, this led the Frey's to seek vengeance on the Starks, luring them in with promises of hospitality and instead slaughtering the family in the Red Wedding. Arya Stark later killed all the male heirs into a pie and had Walder Frey unknowingly eat it, slitting his throat upon revealing herself.

ALLIANCE TURNED FEUD: HOUSE STARK AND HOUSE BOLTON

At one time, these two Houses were allies. House Bolton bent the knee to House Stark, and joined Rob Stark in his crusade as King-of-the-North. Not content with the amount of power they were given, the Bolton's betrayed the Starks at the Red Wedding and took over Winterfell.

It led to a long and bloody conflict between the two houses, which appears to have ended with the Boltons wiped out and the Starks reclaiming their home of Wintefell once more.

FEUD: HOUSE TARGARYEN AND HOUSE LANNISTER

Daenarys in Game of Thrones season 8

After a last second betrayal of the Targaryen's in Robert's Rebellion, the Lannister's and Targaryen's have bitterly opposed one another for decades. Daenerys and Cersei both lay claim to the Iron Throne, demanding to rule over Westeros.

Despite giving the Lannisters an opportunity for a temporary cease fire, the Targaryen's find themselves fighting a war on two fronts in the final season as the Lannisters refuse to lend aid to their foes' fight against the White Walkers.

ALLIANCE: HOUSE GREYJOY AND HOUSE LANNISTER

A more recent alliance, the Greyjoys and Lannisters have historically had little in common. Sensing an opportunity to work together, newly-returned Euron Greyjoy proposed an alliance with the Lannisters.

He would provide the Lannisters with an unstoppable navy and destroy their enemies, in return for Cersei's hand in marriage. While the thought clearly disgusts her, she can't deny that the two working together has yielded results.

ALLIANCE: HOUSE TARLY AND HOUSE LANNISTER

Historically, the Tarly's have been allied with House Tyrell, the allies-turned-enemies of the Lannisters. The Tarly's ultimately betrayed the Tyrell's and joined up with House Lannister, proving instrumental in the defeat of House Tyrell.

Karmic retribution was swift however; the Tarly's were incinerated by Daenerys and her dragons on the way back to Kings Landing.

ALLIANCE: HOUSE STARK AND HOUSE TARGARYEN

Kit Harington as Jon Snow in Game of Thrones season 8

A very recent and surprising alliance, all things considered. The two houses have put aside their differences and pledged to work together to fight off the White Walker threat. Despite their Houses being enemies for decades, Jon Snow and Daenerys have learned to understand and respect one another, which has led to a romance and longing...made awkward by the revelation that Jon Snow is Daenerys's nephew.

On the list of things that Jon Snow knows nothing about, this is top of the list.
