Fans of HBO's Game of Thrones get Brienne trending on Twitter because so many tweeted that they don't want her to die in the Battle of Winterfell episode. Two weeks ago, Game of Thrones season 8 kicked off the final run of episodes for HBO's high fantasy drama. The first seven seasons have been leading to two major battles: one between the living and the dead and (assuming the living win) another for the Iron Throne of Westeros.

In the third episode of season 8, Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen and their allies are making a stand against the Night King and his White Walker army. Come to be known as the Battle of Winterfell, the first two episodes of Game of Thrones' final season have lead up to this point, with "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" portraying the calm before the storm, following each of the characters as they mentally and emotionally prepare for the fight. In one particularly poignant moment - to which the title of the episode refers - Brienne of Tarth is knighted by Jaime Lannister, making the character's dream come true and giving the fans a moment they've long waited for.

However, perhaps because of Brienne being knighted, many Game of Thrones fans believe she's going to die in the Battle of Winterfell. In fact, fans tweeted about Brienne so much in the hours leading up to the episode airing on HBO, that "Brienne" started trending on Twitter. Many of the top tweets are about fans not wanting Brienne to die; see a few such tweets below.

Game of Thrones season 8 episode 3 will feature a sequence that fans have been waiting to see since the very start of the series. After all, George R. R. Martin's book series on which the show is based is called A Song of Ice and Fire, and while there are many ways to interpret that title, many would argue it indicates the importance of the battle between the White Walkers and humans. Certainly, since the threat of the White Walkers was introduced is the very first episode (and the very beginning of the books), it's all arguably been building to the Battle of Winterfell.

As such, fans are expecting many characters to die in the episode. Since Brienne got such a nice moment in the previous episode, she seems to be a major contender to die, but speculation has also run rampant about the fates of other Game of Thrones characters, like Arya, Grey Worm and even Jon and Dany. But because Brienne is such a fan favorite character, it makes sense that she would be the one trending on Twitter ahead of the episode airing.

What becomes of all the Game of Thrones characters participating in the Battle of Winterfell - even those in the crypts - remains to be seen. Fans will have to tune in to learn which Game of Thrones characters die, and which live on to vie for the Iron Throne. After all, there are three more episodes left after the Battle of Winterfell before Game of Thrones finally comes to an end.
