HBO's hit show House of the Dragon continues to take viewers by storm. The mighty power of House Targaryen stands heads and shoulders above the rest of the realm, while other families watch in envy. Yet, while fans witness the Targaryens at their height, they are often reminded of the events of Game of Thrones, long after the dragons fell.

There, it was the Starks and Lannisters who stood above the rest and ruled over the Iron Throne. Although the two seem diametrically opposed at a glance, the wolves and the lions were actually remarkably similar. In fact, there are many quotes by members of House Stark that prove that they're just like the Lannisters.

"Tell Them The North Remembers."

Arya Stark - "The Winds of Winter" (S6.E10).

Arya Stark killing Walder Frey Game of Thrones

Once the feisty and beloved daughter of Ned Stark, Arya quickly proved that she was more than just a scared little girl. Upon her return from Westeros, she made sure to make her way to the Twins, the mighty seat of House Frey. There, she slaughtered them all and told them that the North remembered.

While the Red Wedding was incredibly upsetting, the systematic slaughter of an entire family had shades of Tywin Lannister. After all, he destroyed the Reynes and the Tarbecks, much like Arya destroyed the Freys. He also had Lord Bolton quip about Lannister regards, just like Arya quipped about the North's memory.

"If I’m Going To Die, Let It Happen While There Is Still Some Of Me Left."

Sansa Stark - "Mother's Mercy" (S5.E10).

Much like when Brienne refused to let the loss of Jaime's hand break him, Sansa wasn't afraid to die to have the chance to be herself. With just as much stubborn determination as Jaime had to become himself again, Sansa was willing to leap off the walls of Winterfell just to retain her sense of self.

While much about Sansa's time with Ramsay aged poorly, her determination was certainly a mark of who Sansa was. Like Jaime after losing his hand, she needed to grab hold of who she was in order to move forward. They both managed it incredibly well and even thrived after.

"All Men Should Keep Their Word, Kings Most Of All."

Robb Stark - "The Rains Of Castamere" (S3.E10).

The words of House Lannister may be "Hear Me Roar", but "The Lannisters pay their debts" is the most common refrain. In both blood and gold, the Lannisters tend to pay back anyone owed by themselves or their family. Robb Stark lived up to that mantra incredibly well.

Happy to repay the Lannisters in kind for the death of Ned, he proved willing to pay them back in blood. But he also knew how to reward friends and pay his debts. While he betrayed the Freys and died for it, he tried to make up for the mistake. It may not have been enough, but he certainly tried.

"I Don't Want Someone Brave And Gentle And Strong."

Sansa Stark - "A Golden Crown" (S1.E6).

When Ned was planning to take his daughters out of King's Landing, he promised them better marriages with lords who would be brave, gentle, and strong. Sansa wouldn't have it. Instead, she stubbornly proclaimed that she would have no man but Joffrey, the evilest villain in Game of Thrones.

Similar to how Cersei was stubborn about remaining with Jaime, Sansa refused to have anyone else. She wanted her prince and no replacement, just like Cersei wanted Rhaegar or Jaime and would accept no one else. Though Cersei would eventually try with Robert, she quickly grew to hate him. Both Cersei and Sansa wanted one particular type of man, not a gentle, brave, or strong one.

"You're Going To Die Tomorrow, Lord Bolton. Sleep Well."

Sansa Stark - "Battle of the Bastards" (S6.E9).

A shocked Sansa and a smiling Ramsay looking in the same direction in Game of Thrones.

Sansa was certainly tormented by Ramsay Bolton, but that didn't mean that she didn't have the ability to bite back. While Ramsay may have surrounded himself with dogs, Sansa was a wolf. When she made a threat, she followed through with it and made sure it would intimidate her.

Yet it was also a very Lannister move. Lannisters tend to make vague threats that are then followed through in the harshest way possible. Every threat to House Lannister is driven extinct, just like Sansa killed Lord Bolton and rendered his house a memory.

"I Can't Sleep Until I Say The Names."

Arya Stark - "First of His Name" (S4.E5).

By the end of the show, everybody on Arya Stark's list is dead or gone. After years of mumbling their names before going to sleep, Arya picks a few of them off, but others die before she can get to them. Either way, she made it clear just how consumed by vengeance she really was.

It was a very Lannister trait of hers. After all, the Lannisters tend to lash out to kill at even the slightest offense. Much like Tyrion killed his father after years of torment or Cersei killed each of the Sand Snakes for killing her daughter, Arya may have been right to kill them, but it was still brutal behavior.

“You Wouldn’t Be Able To Help Us In This Fight If I Let Them Murder You First.”

Bran Stark - "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” (S8.E2).

While Lannisters can certainly be cruel people, they also tend to be practical. When they need an ally, they can stand beside them until such time as they don't need them anymore. After all, that was their relationship with the Starks and the Tyrells before everything fell apart.

Yet Bran proved that he views the world in the same way. He managed to cover for Jaime by never revealing who pushed him out of the window of the Broken Tower. While it may have seemed like a kindness, Bran revealed that it was a calculated and practical move, just like Tywin would have tried.

"If We Do It Your Way, Kingslayer, You'd Win."

Robb Stark - "Baelor" (S1.E9).

Lannisters rarely actually care about fairness. Where they begin a Trial by Combat, they send the Mountain That Rides against men like Tyrion or even just members of the smallfolk. They do it solely because they know that the Mountain would win, and they wouldn't have to care anymore.

Yet while Robb Stark lacked much political ability, he certainly knew how to win. When Jaime offered a Trial by Combat to save the lives of tens of thousands of men, Robb refused. After all, he wanted to win, and Jaime would have won that fight. It was a cold move, since thousands would go on to die, but it was a smart one.

"My Watch Has Ended."

Jon Snow - "Oathbreaker" (S6.E3).

Jon Snow at the center with the Night King and Daenerys in the side slide.

Oaths mean nothing to the Lannisters. Tywin was always willing to force Jaime to break his oath, despite Jaime being one of the greatest Kingsguard members. Besides him, Jaime regularly broke his oath of celibacy and his oath to protect the king, as he stabbed King Aerys in the back.

Yet Jon Snow proved no better than Jaime or Tywin. By abandoning the Night's Watch on sheer technicality, he proved that his oaths meant less than his family. He chose love over duty and thus failed his sacred vow. It was a very Lannister move, especially since he only did it knowing that he had the political capital to get away with it.

"All Memory Of You Will Disappear."

Sansa Stark - "Battle of the Bastards" (S6.E9).

Ramsay touches Sansa's face in Game of Thrones

While House Reynes is only remembered through the Lannister song "The Rains of Castamere", the memory of House Tarbeck fades by the day in Game of Thrones. After Tywin Lannister brutally slaughtered them all, all memory of them truly is starting to disappear.

It is exactly what Sansa hopes to do to House Bolton. After slaughtering Ramsay, she plans to let the house be remembered only as enemies that the Starks slaughtered and nothing more. It was incredibly Lannister of her and shows she learned more from Cersei than even she knows.
