Daenerys must go on the defensive in the new promo for next week's episode of Game of Thrones. Things have been moving at a breakneck pace throughout this season of Thrones, which despite being just three episodes into its 7-episode run, has managed to bring together characters from all across Westeros for the first time. And unlike all of the previous seasons of the HBO series, a large portion of the show these past few weeks has been dedicated to Daenerys fighting for her place in Westeros, after embarking on a journey fans anxiously waited through six seasons to see her go on.
It's been an eventful few weeks for Daenerys since she arrived in Dragonstone, having not only met the Red Priestess, Melisandre last week but also finally coming face-to-face with Jon Snow in tonight's episode. But while a majority of Dany's time in tonight's episode was dedicated to her establishing a relationship with Jon, it looks like Dany's full attention will turn to her militaristic strategy next week, as she looks to end her losing streak against Queen Cerseiand the Lannister forces.
Following the premiere of tonight's installment, HBO has unveiled the first promo for next week's episode of Game of Thrones, titled 'The Spoils of War'. Teasing both Cersei and Dany's continued efforts against each other, the promo is filled to the brim with violence, intrigue, conspiracy, and dragons. You can check out the promo for yourself above.
Contrary to what many fans had believed going into the seventh season, Daenerys' conquest of Westeros has not gone well for the would-be-ruler up until this point. After already losing both her Dornish and Greyjoy allies at the end of last week's episode, Game of Thrones concluded tonight's installment with even more bad news for Dany. Not only did she wind up conquering a castle with seemingly no real value (Casterly Rock), but all of the Unsullied's boats were destroyed, leaving them stranded, and the Tyrell army was vanquished by Jaime Lannister and his forces.
Suffice it to say, Dany is in desperate need of a comeback of some kind, and soon. Fortunately, it's looking more and more likely that she'll be able to convince Jon Snow and the Northerners to join her side, and even more likely that she may be adopting a new tactic that involves her bringing the dragons to the forefront of the war effort. Whether or not that involves an attempt at destroying Euron Greyjoy's entire fleet with dragon fire, or an ambush on the marching Lannister forces, will have to wait to be seen.
Game of Thrones will return with 'The Spoils of War' next Sunday @9pm on HBO.
