As the season 5 premiere of Game of Thrones draws nearer, HBO has ramped up their promotional engine, churning out new images, trailers, and sneak peeks on a weekly basis. And these looks into season 5 have made one thing abundantly clear: nothing gets any easier for those still playing the "game."
Along with greater threats and more daunting challenges, Game of Thrones season 5 will also be expanding on the geography of the series, with at least three new locations being added: Dorne, Braavos, and Volantis. This shift in focus isn't just about setting either, as characters who have yet to meet are now being set on a "collision course."
In this latest new clip from Game of Thrones season 5 , Varys (Conleth Hill) shares with Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) that he believes Tyrion has an important role to play in the "war to come." Give it a watch, above.
That war, as fans have theorized for years, could be the inevitable showdown between ice (the white walkers) and fire (dragons), reflected in George R. R. Martin's book series title - A Song of Ice and Fire. If fire does indeed refer to dragons, then Daenerys will undoubtedly be involved, if not leading one side of the battle. And judging by this clip as well as Varys' line from the first trailer, it appears he and Tyrion will be batting for team fire, whenever that day comes.
The other side of this impending war - the ice - could presumably be the white walkers, those inhuman, frozen figures of the north who can turn the dead into their own personal army. Just who will be leading them into battle against the fire is unclear, but already they've proven to be formidable enemies.
For instance, both Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Mance Rayder (Ciarán Hinds) have witnessed their power, and the instilled fear of the white walkers is at the heart of this next clip (which is a longer version of a viral clip released previously) in which Jon challenges Mance to put aside his pride for the sake of his people.
In addition to the new clips, HBO has even more images of the cast to share. Below you'll find a few new images of Jamie (Nikolaj Coster Waldau) and Cersei (Lena Headey), Melisandre (Carice Van Houten), plus one from the above scene with Jon and Mance.
More exciting, however, are photos of the Sand Snakes and our first look at a grown-up Myrcella Baratheon (now played by Nell Tiger Free) and her betrothed, Trystane Martell (Toby Sebastian).
