Game of Thrones is one of the most popular shows on television. Much of the world is eagerly waiting the first episode of the seventh season, which is sure to be one of the most-viewed episodes HBO has ever aired.

The world of Game of Thrones is one that heavily relies on weapons. People are always fighting and finding new ways to take the advantage. The final season of the series is sure to include multiple climactic battles with even more deaths that will have the internet ranting and raving. Daenerys still has to win her throne from the Lannisters and Jon needs to fight the war against the dead. If we know anything about Game of Thrones, these battles are not likely to conclude the way we think they will.

There are a few book references ahead, but don't worry if you haven't read them. Even for exclusive fans of the show, the books serve as a piece of the puzzle that could contain some important and interesting information. Items that appear in the show and in the books carry specific significance, as the show runners were careful to pick elements of the story that were the most important.

These weapons are sure to be the most powerful and most important going forward. Make sure you brush up on your weaponry before the new season on July 16.

15. Wildfire

Wildfire is first introduced to the show through Tyrion, who discovered the Mad King's caches and used them to defeat Stannis in the battle for King's Landing. Wildfire has been used for centuries in the kingdom. Thoros of Myr used it to ignite his sword in tourney fights, and old Targaryen kings would use it for their own purposes.

Through Jamie, we find out that The Mad King had caches stashed throughout King's Landing, and planned to burn the city to the ground before the rebels took control. He failed in his effort, but that didn't stop Cersei for deploying similar tactics against the Faith Militant.

With the title of the series being A Song of Ice and Fire, we can predict that wildfire will play an important role against the White Walkers in the Battle for the Dawn 2.0.

14. Poison

Poison can't be overlooked in the Game of Thrones world, as it's played a hand in the demise of multiple characters. Poison is considered a cowardly way to kill a person in the world where honor is highly regarded, but no one can deny its efficacy. When you're unable to kill someone through honorable means, poison is a surefire way to do the job.

Joffrey Baratheon is one of the biggest characters that fell victim to poison. His death is among the most satisfying deaths in the show as his face turns purple and blood trickles down his nose. The Mountain is another character that fell victim to poison. His wounds after his duel with Oberyn Martell almost resulted in his death due to the poison at the tip of Oberyn's spear.

Sorcery - or whatever Qybrun used - saved The Mountain's life, and it did the same for the Red Woman when she was poisoned by Cressen. Poison obviously isn't the most potent way to kill a person in Game of Thrones, but it's effective much of the time

13. Dragonglass

Dragonglass is one of the more important weapons in Game of Thrones, especially considering the revelation that it was used by the Children of the Forest to create the White Walkers.

The Children of the Forest used dragonglass as their primary defense tool, which is one reason the show's White Walker explanation doesn't make a ton of sense. The Children were the first inhabitants of Westeros, suggesting that they would have weapons that would be effective against their greatest threat. They could easily use stone to kill animals for food, so why would they need to use dragonglass at all?

Regardless of this point of contention, dragonglass is clearly in position to be one of the most useful weapons in the realm. Dragonglass is used in all kinds of sorcery, and now that sorcery is making a comeback it will doubtlessly be used more frequently in the future.

12. Sorcery

Sorcery in Westeros is undoubtedly real, but it's in a similar position to where it is on our world. The audience has seen some impressive feats of sorcery firsthand, but many characters in the show consider sorcery to be a staple of fairy tales at best and a thing of the past at worst.

In any case, sorcery is making a comeback to the world of Game of Thrones, which is mostly tied to the existence of dragons. The warlocks in Qarth were thought to be powerless when Daenerys first arrives, but it's soon revealed that they have a newfound power.

All over Westeros and Essos, sorcery is becoming more powerful as time goes on. It's used as a tool and as a weapon, and will likely be relied upon the conflict with the White Walkers comes to a head.

11. The Mountain

The Mountain was always used as a weapon of sorts. He may have been able to make his own decisions, but Tywin Lannister used Gregor Clegane to do the things that other men wouldn't. Sir Gregor would kill anyone and do anything without remorse. He may have been conscious, but he was in complete control of the Lannister family.

All of that was even before Qyburn turned him into a zombie with half a brain and twice the strength. There has likely never been a more blatant Frankenstein's Monster character than the Mountain in Game of Thrones. Now it would appear that his only loyalty is to Cersei which suggests that he has no free will left in him, making him no more than a literal weapon.

10. Animals

Animals are used as a weapon in multiple ways in Game of Thrones. Everyone's favorite villain Ramsay Bolton uses packs of dogs for hunting and killing. In a fitting death, Ramsay is even killed by his own dogs.

Of course, when referencing animals used as weapons in Game of Thrones, we're mostly referring to wargs. We see a few wargs play a part in Game of Thrones, but Bran is the most important and the most prolific. Bran has traditionally warged into Hodor and Summer as a means of transportation and scouting, but with both characters dead, what's next for Bran?

Some hints were given in the most recent trailer for the new season, in which we see a flock of ravens flying over the White Walkers. We can assume that Bran is warging into some of these ravens and using them as a weapon. Now that Bran has learned how to harness his power in a more intentional manner, expect to see animals used as weapons in the great battle that is sure to come.

9. White Walkers

Last season it was revealed that the Children of the Forest were the ones who created the White Walkers. The White Walkers were originally intended to be used as a weapon in the war against the first men, but the Children soon realized that they couldn't control what they had created.

Fans of the book are understandably skeptical of this explanation, but it's all that we have to work with at the moment. Because of this, the White Walkers have to be considered one of the deadliest weapons in the world.

The White Walkers have swords of ice that shatter regular steel. They cut through bone and flesh effortlessly, with only Valyrian steel and dragonglass standing a chance against them. When you add the fact that the White Walkers can raise the dead to fight for their side, it's hard to imagine a more dangerous foe.

8. Valyrian Steel

It's never explicitly articulated in the show, but last season we learned that Valyrian steel is one of only two substances that can kill a White Walker. On top of that, Valyrian steel is capable of stopping the swing of a White Walker's sword. A normal sword stands no chance against the White Walkers, and Valyrian steel will likely become one of the most important weapons in Game of Thrones.

The audience has been aware of the real war for some time. We realize that the war for the kingdom is petty, and that the important war is taking place beyond the wall. Families in Westeros cherish their Valyrian steel swords, which sets up the possible conflict between those fighting the White Walkers and southern lords that don't see the whole picture.

This information makes Samwell Tarly's theft of his father's sword even more significant. Valyrian steel is going to be extremely important going forward, and it's paramount that the fighters on the front lines have as much of it as possible.

7. The Old Gods

The Old Gods are one deity of only two in the show that seem to be of any use. The Seven may have the largest following in Westeros, but they seem to be the least effective. Even the Drowned God seems to be more effective to those who traverse the seas. The Seven seems to be little more than the personification of Gods; it's never really done anything for anyone.

No one can deny the power of the Old Gods. Bran has traveled through time using the Weirwood trees of the Old Gods. He even changes the future during a climactic scene in season six when... well, everybody know what happened there. It's also heavily implied that the Old Gods are what give wargs and greenseers their powers.

The Old Gods may not be a weapon in the traditional sense of the word, but they have been used for evil in the past. The White Walkers were created using the power of the Old Gods, and that power might be the only thing left to stop them.

6. Longclaw

Longclaw is one of the most prevalent Valyrian steel swords we see in the series. It may be just another Valyrian steel sword, but there appears to be more to it than that.

Jon is one of - if not the - most important characters in all of Game of Thrones. For that reason, the sword he is wielding is equally important to the story. If we've learned anything from Hodor's demise, it's the ability of George R.R. Martin to look ahead and draw significance from small moments in the story. It's not a coincidence that Jon was given the ancestral sword of House Mormont by the Lord Commander.

As stated above, Longclaw could just be another Valyrian steel sword that is just as effective as any other. Even if that's the case, it remains the only sword in the realm that has actually killed a White Walker.

5. The Lord of Light

The Lord of Light, The Old Gods and The Seven may all be human interpretations of the same thing. Then again, different Gods could have different powers in Game of Thrones. If that's the case then The Lord of Light might be the most powerful of all.

The Old Gods have some impressive tricks, but R'hllor seems to be the man in charge for much of the series. This god provides vision in the flames to his followers, allows people to rise from the dead, and somehow provided Melisandre with a shadow baby that was sent to kill Renly.

Melisandre is human and able to make mistakes, which means that the power of The Red God is able to be corrupted and used for personal gain. If Melisandre was so wrong about Stannis, then much of what she did was for no other reason than to help the wrong king. Thoros and other red priests are likely to pop-up in the coming season, which should give us more insight into the truth of the Red God.

4. Dawn

To fans who haven't read the Game of Thrones books, scoured the forums, or read every page of the Wiki might not be as familiar with Dawn. Like Longclaw, Dawn has the potential to be nothing more than another Valyrian steel sword, though many believe it's much more significant.

The show's depiction of Dawn is minimal; there is little more than a scene showing the sword against the bed in a Bran flashback. Dawn is the sword of house Dayne. Unlike other ancestral swords, Dawn is given to the knight who is most capable of wielding it and no the eldest son or heir. The knight who holds Dawn is given the title "The Sword of the Morning."

Ned defeats The Sword of The Morning in the Tower of Joy scene. As the story goes, the sword was so stunning that he had to return it to its ancestral home.

Dawn is almost guaranteed to be important. The show hasn't focused on it as much, but its inclusion still points to the fact that it will likely play a massive role in the battle against the White Walkers.

3. Dragons

Dragons are arguably the most powerful forces in the known world. The dragons are what gave Daenerys so much power, and they'll likely be the weapon that turns the tide of battle against the Lannisters and the White Walkers.

Dragons are just too powerful to stand against. When Aegon first conquered Westeros, his host was much smaller than any in the kingdom. What won him his throne was the ability to rain fire down on those who stood against them. Daenerys is now in the same position.

If we know anything about the White Walkers, it's that they don't like fire. The only effective way to deal with a dead man walking at you is to burn them, which is one point where Dragons excel. All things considered a dragon should walk right through an army of dead people, which seems a little unfair; unless...

2. Ice Dragons

If you don't want to get a very possible scenario spoiled then you should skip this section.

Ice dragons have not been included in the show whatsoever, but fans of the series have been theorizing about them since the books first became popular. George RR Martin wrote a short story that was set in Westeros (before he wrote any of the novels) which told the story of a little girl and an ice dragon. There are other references to ice dragons in the novels, though they are thought of as little more than ancient myth.

Game of Thrones doesn't like one-sided battles. All of the battles in the show have been tense, and why should the final battle be any different? If the good guys have three dragons and a bunch of Valyrian steel, how do the White Walkers stand a chance?

The answer: ice dragons. A prevalent theory that is said to be coming in season seven is the death of one of Dany's dragons. With this death, the Night King will revive the dragon and have it fight for the side of the dead as an ice dragon. Now that's how you even the playing field!

1. Lightbringer

Lightbringer isn't stressed as heavily in the TV show as it is in the books, but it's still likely to make an appearance towards the end of the series. For those who don't know, Lightbringer is the prophesied sword of Azor Ahai. The Red Priests believe that Azor Ahai once lead the fight against the darkness, and that he will return to save the world again.

No one knows who Azor Ahai really is. Melisandre thought it was Stannis, and many fans point to Jon, Daenerys, Berric Dondarrion, and even Tyrion. Lightbringer is the sword of Azor Ahai, making it the most powerful and important weapon in the series.

Lightbrings could be anything. It could be Longclaw, Dawn, a dragon, or even a person. There might be more fan theories around this prophecy than anything else in Game of Thrones. One thing's for sure; if it does exist it's going to be one hell of a weapon.
