The focus on gender appears to be a dominant theme in HBO's House of the Dragon, in that the show explores the complex gender dynamics that dictate the succession rules and traditions in Westeros.Queen Alicent Hightower and Princess Rhaenerya Targaryen's complicated relationship in the prequel show draws a parallel with Cersei Lannister and Margaery Tyrell's from Game of Thrones. Alicent and Cersei are fierce mothers committed to preserving their positions of power and threatened by Rhaenerya and Margaery, respectively. While Alicent and Rhaenerya's rivalry is in its initial phase, these memes are all about Cersei and Margaery's animosity that came to a head with the destruction of the Great Sept of Baelor.

Wildfire Under King's Landing

In season 5, Cersei armed the Faith Militant with the intent of using them in her battles against her enemies. However, that plan backfired, and she was arrested by the Sparrows for adultery, incest, and regicide.

The "Disaster Girl" meme template perfectly encapsulates the moment Cersei annihilated Margaery and the rest of her foes by having the Great Sept of Baelor blown. She'd gotten rid of her daughter-in-law and her vicious hold on Tommen, and thus watched the explosion with satisfaction.

Mocking Cersei

Margaery became a little arrogant for her own good after her marriage to Tommen Baratheon. Things took an ugly turn when Cersei visited her shortly after her nuptials and found herself standing amid her handmaidens listening to her wedding night tales.

Using a still from season 5's "High Sparrow," this meme points to the intense feeling of dislike that the two women harbored for one another. Cersei instantly realized she had to circumvent Margaery's power because the new Queen was up to no good and would outmaneuver her soon.

Cersei Sips Her Wine

By the end of season 6, Cersei's hatred of Margaery had reached a breaking point. She was ultimately able to gain an upper hand in the power struggle by reducing her to smithereens.

This meme commemorates one of Cersei Lannister's best political plays on Game of Thrones, i.e, taking down the Faith Militant and the Tyrells in one shot by blowing the Great Sept of Baelor. It was Qyburn who helped Cersei execute the master plan by igniting the underground barrels of wildfire under the Sept. Cersei sipped wine and took pleasure in watching her mortal enemies the High Sparrow, Margaery, Loras, and Mace Tyrell, Lancel and Kevan Lannister obliterated to dust.

Monster-In-Law

Cersei's behavior around Margaery was an obvious sign of her insecurity towards her. She saw her as a threat to what she'd gone to great lengths to preserve. When in "High Sparrow" Tommen asked her to move back to Casterly Rock, she knew she was losing the hold she once had on her sweet boy.

Cersei was a true mastermind, and she acted quite like the monster-in-law by having Margaery imprisoned by the Faith. Even though the Lannister-Tyrell alliance had bought peace to the Seven Kingdoms, Cersei would risk all of that just to extricate her son from Margaery's grip.

The Separation Of The Church And The State

In Game of Thrones, The Faith was represented by the High Septon who had absolutely no authority outside the religious sphere. Things changed when Cersei met with the High Sparrow (Jonathan Pryce) in season 5 and gave him powers to reassemble the Faith Militant, so she could use them in her pretty battles against the Tyrells and such.

When Faith Militant quickly morphed into a political agency with an army of zealots at the back, Cersie knew all she'd done was invite more trouble. The High Sparrow was one among the Game of Thrones characters who contributed the most to Cersei's downfall. After the Tyrell children were arrested, Cersei was next in line to be held accountable for her crimes. This meme takes a barb at Cersei's big speech about the Faith and the Crown being the two pillars of the world. Whilst her Tommen spoke about the unification of the Church and the State, Cersei separated the religion and the State in a blast. Her worst enemy, Margaery was gone, and so were the fanatics.

The Rivalry That Cost Lady Olenna And Cersei Dearly

Ultimately Cersei and Margaery's rivalry came at a price for both House Tyrell and House Lannister. One of the most powerful characters in Game of Thrones - Lady Olenna was robbed of her future, in that, she lost all her son and her grandchildren, whereas Cersei lost her last living child.

After the reigning monarch, Tommen jumped to his death, Cersei was crowned as the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. Though she was in a mourning state, her smug expression conveyed that she had managed to outlive every enemy from her scheming daughter-in-law, the Tyrells, to the Faith Militant.

Smug-Faced Margaery

One of the most noticeable things about Margaery was the smug face she pulled every time she and Cersei spoke. She knew the art of people pleasing, and the tricks to make herself appear effortlessly charming.

Even though Cersei and Margaery's exchange appeared cordial in "High Sparrow," truth is, they hated each other's guts. Both women liked to get their claws into powerful men for personal gains, and Cersei was well aware of Margaery's intentions. This meme is simply an ode to the fact that in the ambitious Margaery, Cersei had finally met her match.

The Grandmother And The Granddaughter In Tandem

Lady Olenna's granddaughter, Margaery had arrived in King's Landing to play the game of thrones and wrestle power from Cersei's hands. Olenna thus conspired with Littlefinger to poison the sadistic king, Joffrey, because she wouldn't dare risk her granddaughter's safety. The Tyrell matriarch sowed seeds of Cersei's downfall at the Purple Wedding by killing her firstborn maniacal son.

This meme celebrates the Tyrells, but mostly the Queen of sass, Lady Olenna - aka, the character who caused Joffrey's eventual downfall in Game of Thrones. She was in mourning after the future of her house, Ser Loras, her granddaughter, Queen Margaery and her son, Mace Tyrell were killed in the destruction of the Great Sept of Baelor at Cersei's behest.

Tart-Tongued Lady Olenna

Upon hearing the news of Ser Loras' imprisonment, Lady Olenna arrived in King's Landing to see her granddaughter and demand freedom for her grandson. As she and Margaery agreed that Cersei was behind Loras' arrest, Olenna decided to take matters into her own hands.

Being the tart-tongued woman that she was, Olenna knew it was time to tell Cersei off. This particular meme points to the fact that Cersei and Margaery's power wrestle had simply gone out of control, and the two women were willing to do anything in order to undermine each other.
