House Greyjoy is one of the smallest families within Westeros. While there are characters outside of HBO's hit show, Game of Thrones, this article will be focusing on the television characters.

House Greyjoy has a golden Kraken on its sigil. This makes sense to represent the family because the Greyjoy lands are the coastal Iron Islands and believers of the Drowned God. This Ironborn family is not particularly known for their power or courage. However, the Greyjoys were able to reclaim independence for the Iron Islands through Lord Balon Greyjoy proclaiming himself king of the lands at the start of the series, and Asha (Yara) gaining control over the lands and helping him flourish by the end of the show.

After Theon died in the Battle of Winterfell and Euron in his own duel with Jamie Lannister, Asha (Yara) Greyjoy is the last remaining survivor of the Iron Island's House Greyjoy.

Lord Balon Greyjoy: Neutral Evil

Lord Balon Greyjoy, a self-proclaimed King of the Iron Islands, is the initial Head of House Greyjoy. Father to Theon and Asha (Yara) Greyjoy and eldest brother to Euron and Aeron Greyjoy, this character lived under the false pretense that his seniority kept him powerful, despite the decline of the Ironborn people. This arrogance also pitted Theon against House Stark which raised him alongside Robb Stark. This conflict ultimately leads Theon to mistakenly betray the direwolf sigil in favor of the Kraken which sent him away. This need for Balon's approval had Theon saying, "I'm a Greyjoy, I can't fight for Robb and my father both" and lead to the initial demise of House Stark, showing Lord Balon's extensive manipulative powers.

This character is neutral evil due to his self-serving tendencies at the risk of his own people. Making the Iron Islands independent of the Seven Kingdoms opened this coastal territory up to threats from other political powers, such as the Lannisters that held control over King's Landing. Overall, Balon did not seem to care about that risk, because at the end of the day, he was his own king, and that is exactly what Blaon wanted all along.

Theon Greyjoy: Neutral Good

Theon Greyjoy is commonly regarded as one of the Game of Thrones characters that have developed the most throughout the course of the series. From betraying the Starks, being kidnapped and enslaved by Ramsey Bolton, and (finally) standing up to his father, Theon has undergone some seriously traumatic experiences and come out the other side. His whole character arc was centered on personal growth leading to a redemptive nature.

This particular motivation was centered on redeeming himself to the House Stark, of which he betrayed while looking for approval in his father's eyes. This is seen at the climactic Battle of Winterfell.

This deeply flawed character means well but is actually rather selfish. Theon Greyjoy is a Neutral Good character, because while he is motivated to do the right thing, ultimately he will do what is possible to save his own skin.

King Euron Greyjoy: Chaotic Neutral

King Euron Greyjoy, is an egotistical character that forced his way onto the Iron Throne by marrying Cersei in the final episodes of the show. A cunning negotiator, Euron was able to barter with the Iron Islands fleet to secure his role as King. Before that, Euron not only worked as a (sort of) usurper to the Salt Throne by claiming it over Asha (Yara), he worked to murder his niece and nephew in fear that they could challenge his claim to the throne.

King Euron is a chaotic neutral character because he is only looking out for himself and he isn't afraid to deceive or challenge anyone in his own way, even his family.

Aeron Greyjoy: Lawful Good

Aeron Greyjoy is the brother to Balon and Euron Greyjoy and uncle to Theon and Asha (Yara) Greyjoy. He is known for his short appearance as the priest of the Drowned God that baptized Theon in the waters of the Iron Islands. He also "drowns" Euron when practicing the Drowned God's coronation practices in order for Euron to ascend to the Iron Island's Salt Throne, which is the throne Balon sat on before he was murdered by Euron.

A lawful good character, Aeron Greyjoy works to follow the rules in place that were set by the Drowned God's religion. He also attempts to do right by both his House and the Ironborn followers of the faith.

Aeron's death is a mysterious fact in the Game of Thrones television show because while it is insinuated in season eight, no cause of death was offered.

Asha (Yara) GreyJoy: Lawful Good

Perhaps one of the strongest female characters in Game of Thrones, Asha (who was renamed "Yara" in the HBO television show) is a force to be reckoned with. Brother to Theon Greyjoy, niece to Euron and Aeron Greyjoy, and daughter to Lord Balon Greyjoy, Asha (Yara) is an honorable leader that challenges the inferior roles of women in her society. Due to her strong integrity, honesty in leadership, and overall confidence, Asha (Yara) is able to own her own longship and the respect of her crew. This respect comes to fruition when many Ironborn proclaim they want Asha (Yara) to be the Queen before Euron infiltrates the coronation.

Asha (Yara) is also able to rally her forces an in attempt to rescue Theon from Ramsey Bolton. This showed how strong and courageous of a leader Asha (Yara) is and her dedication to doing what is right.

She is the last remaining Greyjoy of her family's house and Lady of the Iron Islands by the end of the series. Asha's (Yara) character arc and plot arc just goes to show that sometimes in Game of Thrones, it actually does serve characters to be both lawful and good.
