Everyone knows that the powerful female characters are some of the best things about Game of Thrones. In many important ways, they are the most competent people to appear in the series, certainly compared to some of the denser male members of the cast.

Obviously, some are a little better at the titular contest than others, but all of them show time and again that they have what it takes to last until the very end. The real question, though, is just which female characters would be likely to survive until the end of a horror movie, and which ones would quickly bite the dust.

Cersei Lannister

The thing about Cersei is that she really does seem to think that she is a master at the game of thrones. It’s this hubris that ultimately seems to be her undoing, since she also happens to be incredibly stubborn and, even when things go against her, she refuses to change her ways.

As anyone who has seen a horror film knows, it’s precisely this kind of behavior that is almost guaranteed to get someone bumped off very early on in a horror film. RIP Cersei.

Catelyn Stark

Catelyn Stark in Game Of Thrones

Catelyn Stark is a person who really does have a good heart. She genuinely wants to help her son Robb to become the best king that he can possibly be, but this often translates into an unwillingness to really challenge him when he needs it most.

Of course, she can’t be blamed for his mistakes, but it is nevertheless true that her lapses in judgment where her son is concerned means that she would probably be killed pretty quickly and ruthlessly in a horror film.

Daenerys Targaryen

Even though they are on opposite sides of the conflict for the Iron Throne, Dany and Cersei actually have a lot in common. Like Cersei, Dany is incredibly stubborn, and she has a very firm sense of what’s right and wrong from her own point of view, and she tries to force everyone else to do what she wants.

She’s the type of person who would try to bully everyone else in a horror film into doing what she wants, only to be cut down when she thinks she’s on the brink of success

Margaery Tyrell

Margaery Tyrell deserves a lot of credit for being willing to go up against Cersei, a woman not particularly known for her mercy or her willingness to put up with a rival.

However, as cunning as she is, it has to be said that Margaery is also susceptible to fits of hubris and pride, which allows her to fall quite neatly into the trap that Cersei has set for her. In a horror film, she’d be the kind of person who would make it to about the middle of the film before getting cut down.

Melisandre

In a world full of cynicism, Melisandre is one of those people who seems to be a true believer. She has a devotion to her god that is unrivaled by almost anyone in Westeros (or Essos).

In some ways, she seems to put everyone else to shame, because she has something that she actually believes in. Unfortunately, this also means that she would be a bit inflexible in a horror film, which would probably lead to her getting cut down just when she thinks that she’s made it out alive.

Ygritte

Ygritte from Game of Thrones

Ygritte had the misfortune to fall in love with Jon Snow, a man who was not only part of the Night’s Watch but it is also, to be honest, a bit of an idiot when it comes to matters of the heart.

Nevertheless, she’s a fiercely independent kind of young woman, exactly the type that would be very likely to live through most of a horror film. Unfortunately, her lapses in judgment would probably not allow her to be a final girl.

Olenna Tyrell

Olenna Tyrell game of thrones

Olenna Tyrell is one of the breakout stars of the later seasons of the show. This Queen of Thorns is fiercely protective of her granddaughter, so much so that she even goes so far as to poison Joffrey at his own wedding so that she wouldn’t have to live her life with him.

She’s exactly the kind of ruthless person who would be able to survive in a horror film, basically by being too stubborn to die. Woe to the horror killer who would be stupid enough to take her on.

Brienne of Tarth

There are few characters in this show as straightforwardly noble and good as Brienne. While some might question her judgment in becoming enamored of Jaime Lannister, for the most part she shows herself to be someone with good sense and a dogged ability to survive and beat the odds.

In fact, it’s something of a miracle that she makes it to the last season at all. However, it’s these skills that would make her an ideal candidate for the final girl.

Sansa Stark

Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones

Sansa Stark has all of the makings of a horror film final girl. She begins as something of a naive young lady, with her eyes on the glittering court, but as the series progresses she becomes ever more hardened, until she’s primed to take the throne of the North in her own name.

Anyone who can survive an attack by the likes of Ramsay Bolton (and could survive in the snake pit of King’s Landing) would be very unlikely to die at the hands of a typical horror villain.

Arya Stark

In some ways, Arya seems like the type of person who would die fairly early on in a horror film. She’s a bit overconfident, and everyone knows that the horror genre is notoriously hostile to confident and powerful women.

However, let’s be real. It’s virtually impossible to imagine someone like Arya getting killed in a horror film. After all, what horror film villain, even the most powerful and intimidating, would think that it would be in any way a good idea to take on someone who was able to kill the Night King himself?
