Game of Thrones was one of the most popular shows of all time. The HBO fantasy, based on the hugely successful book series a Song of Ice and Fire by George RR Martin, helped to introduce a whole new generation to the fantasy genre.
While the show is famous for its venomous characters, terrifying plots, and breathtaking action, there are some romantic characters who stand out as being both attractive and dateable.
Best: Oberyn Martell
Oberyn Martell, or the Red Viper of Dorne, is one of the most attractive characters in the show’s history. Portrayed by Pedro Pascal, the Red Viper only appeared for one season but certainly left an impression on audiences.
The character is an attractive person who is clearly very physical in his love; however, if you don’t mind polyamory then Oberyn Martell would certainly be a great partner.
Worst: Robert Baratheon
King Robert Baratheon, first of his name, is the King of Westeros at the start of both the Game of Thrones TV series and the a Song of Ice and Fire book series. King Robert won the throne from Aerys II Targaryen during Robert’s Rebellion, ending the Targaryen Dynasty in the process.
While King Robert was far from the worst king in the show, he was also one of the least caring as a partner. He frequently cheated on Cersei and treat her incredibly badly, frequently getting drunk and beating her.
Best: Robb Stark
King Robb Stark is one of the most attractive and honorable characters in the show. The oldest son of Lord Eddard Stark, Robb Stark rebelled against the crown after his father’s execution. After being declared King in the North, Robb Stark led successful battles against the Lannister forces, before he was betrayed and murdered at the Red Wedding by the Freys and the Boltons.
Robb Stark is honorable and handsome, making him a perfect boyfriend. While he did break his vow to marry a Frey daughter, he did so out of honor.
Worst: Euron
In the TV series, Euron is a terrible partner. He’s an arrogant, violent, and power-hungry character who seems hellbent on doing anything necessary to make his own standing in Westeros even greater.
In the books, however, he is a violent, sadistic, and supernatural villain. In the books, Euron has been to Valyria and Asshai, traveling on his infamous ship, the Silence. There are also hints that Euron is planning a huge sacrifice outside of Oldtown in order to become some kind of Lovecraftian god, with plans to turn the sea blood red.
Best: Ned Stark
Arguably, Eddard Stark is the nicest and most honorable man in all of Westeros. In many ways, it was Ned Stark’s indubitable sense of honor that led to the man’s death, with Ned warning Cersei Lannister to leave King’s Landing before he broke the news of her incest with Jaime.
While Ned Stark is obviously on the older side, there’s no denying that he would still make for an incredible partner.
Worst: Night King
There are a few reasons why the Night King wouldn’t make a very good boyfriend. The first, and most obvious, is that the Night King is the leader of an undead army that intends to wipe out life in Westeros (and potentially the world).
The second issue that the Night King is a White Walker and they’re known for bringing freezing temperatures, making any intimacy incredibly difficult (he does have a nice smile though).
Best: Jon Snow
Naturally, Jon Snow has to make this list. Not only is the character honorable and brave, but he is also very attractive which, naturally, makes any potential boyfriend easier to accept and grow close to (at least at first).
While it may take a while to get used to his brooding nature, there’s no denying that Jon Snow would make a fantastic partner (just don’t tell him of your plans to wage a constant war against Westerosi houses).
Worst: Joffrey Baratheon
Joffrey Baratheon is one of the worst and most infuriating characters in the show. Joffrey is a spoiled, sadistic, and arrogant character who enjoys inflicting pain on others for the sake of it. his treatment of both Sansa and Tyrion alone is enough to show this.
If it weren’t for a certain other character in the Seven Kingdoms, Joffrey would’ve probably taken the top spot on this list, but alas.
Best: Davos Seaworth
Sure, Davos may be older and less physically attractive than some of the others on this list, he is also one of the most reliable, honorable, and likable characters in the Seven Kingdoms, with Davos providing reliable and honest counsel to several kings.
In addition to being honest and honorable, Davos is also one of the funniest characters on the show, giving his unique brand of dry wit in several episodes.
Worst: Ramsay Bolton
Seriously, who else could have actually topped this list? Ramsay Bolton is one of the vilest, most evil, and sadistic characters in fiction, never mind just in the World of Ice and Fire and the Seven Kingdoms.
The character’s treatment of Sansa (in the show) and Theon (book and show), Jeyne Poole (books), and Lady Dustin (books) are enough to show that he is an awful character.
