The hit PSVR title The Persistence will finally be releasing on other platforms without VR capabilities. Those who miss the Dead Space franchise, may find several aspects of The Persistence familiar and enjoyable. The Persistence will be releasing sometime this summer.

Survival horror games have been a staple of the video game industry for a very long time. The genre was probably first popularized with the release of the original Resident Evil game. For years after this other studios tried to recreate the same feelings of horror and helplessness that Resident Evil gave to fans. No other series quite capitalized on this genre quite like Dead Space. Despite the missteps of Dead Space 3, the series is still widely regarded as one of the best survival horror franchises ever created. Dead Space managed to create an environment and atmosphere that left players never knowing what waited for them around the corner.

The Persistence could almost be considered a spiritual successor to the Dead Space series. Players must survive on a doomed space ship that is stranded in deep space. The ship has become overrun with monstrous creatures that attempt to kill the player as they explore and fight their way through the labyrinth like ship. The Persistence also integrates rogue-like elements that change the layout of the ship and randomizes the placements of enemies.

The Persistence was massively popular as a PSVR title, but will be able to reach a much larger audience with a release on PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. By removing VR capability this will be the first time the game will be able to be played without the VR headset. There will be both digital and physical copies of the game available, and any PS4 users who own the VR version of The Persistence will be getting the new version for free. There has been no official release date announced yet, but the game will come out sometime this summer.

Survival Horror is one of the most challenging and rewarding video game genres out there. A lot of players find something very rewarding about ignoring their worst fears as they eliminate or avoid horrific creatures. More than that though the atmosphere of a well made survival horror game can make players feel truly immersed in the game's world. If that is something that excites players, then The Persistence will be right up their alley. Hopefully, the popular VR game can perform just as well without the headset.
