Tuning into The Game Awards 2020 this year held some big surprises for those hoping to hear about updates for games like Among Us, Left 4 Dead and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Gamers got sneak peaks at big titles in The Game Awards 2020, setting expectations for what they can expect to see in the next few months as more information is released. With new games and DLC on the horizon, fans are likely going to have an exciting start to the new year and a chance to try out new content for some of their favorite games.

Besides offering new content, games like Among Us and Fortnite offered players bonuses and rewards for tuning into The Game Awards this year. Among Us' Twitch bonuses were bolstered with a brand new announcement, as InnerSloth informed fans they will be getting a new Airship map in the near future. This is a content update many have been hoping to see for some time, as the game has stayed basically the same since its initial 2018. Fortnite also delivered new announcements, revealing Halo and The Walking Dead crossovers.

Fans of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Final Fantasy 7 will be excited to hear that Sephiroth is Smash's next DLC character. Some may find the reveal disappointing, as many fans expected a crossover with a franchise that hasn't previously appeared in Smash. However, being able to play as Cloud Strife's nemesis in Ultimate will still likely result in many fun Smash Bros. dream matchups.

Mass Effect Sequel Liara Reveal Trailer

While fans had previously seen some concept art, Left 4 Dead spiritual successor Back 4 Blood surprised fans with a full gameplay trailer at The Game Awards. It appears Back 4 Blood will keep many of the mechanics that made Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 so popular when they dropped back in the 2000's, adding on a new story, zombie mutations, and more. Perfect Dark also got a reboot reveal, surprising those hoping for a return of the long-dormant franchise.

New Dragon Age and Mass Effect games both received teaser trailers from BioWare. While the trailers themselves didn't hold much in the way of content, fans will be excited to see further progress, especially for Dragon Age 4. The newest instalment of Dragon Age has been heavily anticipated, and there has been some concern about where its direction may be heading, especially after the recent news Dragon Age staff decided to leave BioWare. Fans were not expecting the teaser for Mass Effect, however, and while the project doesn't have a title yet, the teaser showed the new game will return to the Milky Way galaxy and its beloved characters, like Liara.

The Game Awards 2020 revealed a wide variety of updates and new content coming sometime in the future. While teasers like Mass Effect's were nothing more than a taste, games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Back 4 Blood gave a fans good picture of what to expect for their favorite games. With Among Us getting its new The Airship map and so many new games to look forward to, gaming fans will have plenty to keep them busy in the upcoming year.
