Samsung's Galaxy Watch 5 series will be coming with a handful of upgrades, but new info has revealed these will come at a cost — a higher price tag. Samsung is not the only big-name manufacturer announcing new smartwatches in 2022. In addition to new smartwatches, it has also been reported that Samsung will launch a new fitness tracker under its Galaxy Fit line.
Asides from Samsung's new smartwatches, other highly anticipated smartwatches are the Apple Watch Series 8, which should arrive alongside the iPhone 14 series. Google has also confirmed that its first smartwatch, the Pixel Watch, will be launched alongside the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. In addition, other brands such as Fossil and Mobvoi (TicWatch) are also expected to announce new smartwatches.
Several leaks have revealed significant changes are coming to the Galaxy Watch series with the launch of the Galaxy Watch 5 in Aug. 2022. However, these additional features and improvements appear to have translated into a higher price tag for Samsung's next-gen wearables. Pricing info for Europe shared by Roland Quandt (@rquandt) reveals the Galaxy Watch 5 and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro will command a higher price than their predecessors. Starting with the Galaxy Watch 5, the new smartwatch will be available in 40mm and 44mm sizes, and each size will have the option of Bluetooth and LTE variants. The 40mm version with Bluetooth will sell for €300, while the LTE edition will sell for €350. This is no small increase compared to the 40mm Galaxy Watch 4, which launched for €269 and €319, respectively.
Galaxy Watch 5 Pro Will Come In Only One Size
Those who want to pick up the 44mm version of the Galaxy Watch 4 will have to shell out €350 for the Bluetooth version and €400 for the LTE variant. In contrast, the Galaxy Watch 4 of the same size sold for €299 for the Bluetooth version and €349 for the LTE variant. In addition to these prices, the source has also revealed the colors they will be available in. The 40mm version will come in Pink Gold, Gray and Silver, while those who want the larger 44mm version can choose from Blue, Gray and Silver.
A previous report revealed that rather than a Galaxy Watch 5 Classic, Samsung would launch a Galaxy Watch 5 Pro instead. Furthermore, it won't be available in two sizes like the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic or even the Galaxy Watch 5. The only size available will be 45mm, and it will sell for €490 for the Bluetooth variant and €540 for the LTE edition. Interested buyers will be able to pick it up in Black and Titanium. For context, the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic launched for €319 for the 42mm Bluetooth variant and €419 for the LTE version. The bigger 46mm version sold for €399 for the Bluetooth version and €449 for the LTE edition.
While these are European prices, and a mere conversion to U.S. dollars isn't what Samsung uses for its U.S. pricing, it is still expected that the watches will sell for higher in the United States compared to the Galaxy Watch 4 series, which had a starting price of $250. Samsung will justify these prices with features such as bigger battery capacities and a more premium build. There are also reports that Samsung may add a temperature sensor. The question is if fans of the series will agree with the new pricing when Samsung launches the latest watches in Aug. 2022.
