Samsung announced four new watch faces, new complications, and that more will be coming to the Galaxy Watch 4 soon. This was an area in which the Galaxy Watch 4 was a bit lacking before, so the addition is welcome news. Complications are the little pieces of information that appear on a watch face and provide a quick and easy way to open the associated apps.
Samsung has been making wearables for many years, starting with fitness trackers before moving on to smartwatches as the technology improved. When Apple entered the market, the pressure was on to match its better fashion sense, something that proved to be important to the general public since a watch is so visible on the wrist. Samsung learned and quickly adjusted its strategy, switching to classic watch styling with a round face and a bezel, even offering styling that matches a sports watch.
Samsung will be rolling out four new watch faces in its October 20, 2021 update. These include "Info Brick, Basic Dashboard, Weather Center, and Live Wallpaper." Each of these can be customized with a choice of colors and complications. New complications will be available for the Animals and My Photo-Plus watch faces with this update, allowing up to four. The My Photo-Plus watch face is gaining the ability to show a brief bit of video, which is most likely tied to the motion photo feature of Samsung smartphones. The Steps Challenge watch face gets a bit of whimsy with an animated character moving and changing before and after a challenge, even celebrating or crying depending on a win or loss.
Galaxy Watch 4 New Watch Faces
With four new watch faces, Samsung is adding some excellent extra value for Galaxy Watch 4 owners. The Info Brick face provides a summary of health metrics and health stats and tracks the progress of exercise goals. In addition, Basic Dashboard can show a variety of useful information such as world time, outdoor temperature from the weather app, steps, battery percentage, date, offering two complications placed above the time and two below.
Weather Center provides a themed face that reflects the current weather with lightning, raindrops, clouds, or a sunny glow appearing behind the time, temperature, and forecast for the next few hours. The Live Wallpaper face matches the same animation effect that is available on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3. This update should be rolling out soon for all Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 owners, adding a little more variety to watch faces.
