Samsung is eyeing a February launch for its Galaxy S23 series phones, but the upcoming flagship trio has already posed for the camera in the form of dummy units, giving us arguably the best look at their design. The chaebol is apparently keeping things a tad understated this year in terms of design, as well as the hardware upgrades. Excited buyers will get to choose from three sizes, just like the Galaxy S22 series.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra will lead the charge, in terms of size, pricing, and camera innovation. The vanilla Galaxy S23 will be the smallest one of the lot, serving a palm-friendly package wrapped in a palatable price tag that falls in the same ballpark as the iPhone 14. The Galaxy S23+ will be the middle child, offering perks like a large screen and battery, while watering down its Ultra sibling’s camera mojo to go for a few hundred dollars cheaper.

It Doesn't Look Bad, Just Boring

In case you haven’t been satisfied with the leak-based computer-generated renders, SlashLeaks has dropped images of dummy units representing all three Galaxy S23 series phones. Starting with the Galaxy S23 Ultra, well, it will look almost identical to its predecessor. Buyers are in for the same curved sides and sharp top edges as the Galaxy S22 Ultra, with a glass-and-metal sandwich architecture to round it all up. The dummies offer a glimpse at a matte black and pearl white finish for the Galaxy S22 Ultra, but more color options are definitely cooking up in Samsung’s design labs.

Samsung apparently reserved the redesign treatment for the smaller Galaxy S23 family members. The half-wraparound look of the camera island is gone in these. Instead, the Galaxy S23 and its Plus version are also embracing the same floating lens aesthetic as the Ultra model. These two versions are also depicted in black and white, but more color options are likely in the pipeline. It appears that Samsung won’t be selling an Exynos-powered version of the Galaxy S23 series phones next year, thanks to its deepening ties with Qualcomm and the bad reception of its in-house mobile processors.

Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip will keep all three devices buzzing, while a high-refresh-rate OLED panel with a punch-hole cutout aka Infinity-O design is also certain. The Galaxy S23 Ultra will come armed with a 200-megapixel camera sensor from Samsung’s own ISCELL lineup, but there are still conflicting rumors of a 108-megapixel main camera. The company recently showed off its imaging skills by printing out a giant cat picture clicked by the sensor mounted on a test kit. The battery capacity is said to be going up slightly for each of the phones, and satellite connectivity a la the iPhone 14 series is also said to be on the table.
