Samsung has released a number of smartphones in 2020, including the Galaxy S20 series. There are multiple Galaxy S20 models now available and they all tend to share many common features, such as 5G. However, with the release of the new Fan Edition, Samsung now offers a Galaxy S20 at a more affordable price. Here's how the Galaxy S20 FE compares to the company's most expensive model in this series, the Galaxy S2o Ultra.

The Galaxy S20 FE and S20 Ultra share similarities with each other. Both phones support 5G, rely on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 CPU, and provide an Infinity-O display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The display on these phones is great and the refresh rate causes colors to pop. Both have high-resolution rear cameras and share photography features, such as Single Take which allows multiple photos and 10-second video to be taken simultaneously. Priced at $699 the Galaxy S20 FE is the cheapest, but comes with the least features and more modest specs. At $1399, the S20 Ultra is the most expensive, but comes with the most features and the best specs.

Cameras are a major selling point for smartphones. The Galaxy S20 FE is loaded with a triple rear camera setup, spearheaded by a 12-megapixel solution, and accompanied with a 32-megapixel front-facing camera. In contrast, the Galaxy S20 Ultra comes with a quad-camera setup, and can even record video in 8K at 24 FPS. Both phones have Space Zoom which allows the camera to zoom in many times over. The S20 FE can zoom in up to 30x magnification, but the Ultra can zoom in 100x (and 10x hybrid optic zoom). Combine that with the Infinity-O display, and the any photos taken should look fantastic. The biggest camera drawback with the Galaxy S20 FE is that it cannot shoot videos in 8K. In comparison, the Ultra's biggest camera downside is that a buyer might be paying for camera features they don't want or need. However if camera quality is a major selling point, the Galaxy S20 Ultra is already the winner.

The specs for the two phones differ greatly. The Galaxy S20 FE is powered by a 4500 mAh capacity battery, and is equipped with 128GB storage, along with 6GB of RAM. The Galaxy S20 Ultra has a 5000 mAh battery and can be purchased with either 128GB or 512GB of internal storage. Although both phones do come with the added option of expanding storage limits through the use of a microSD card. The amount of RAM also differs with a choice of either 12 or 16GB with the Ultra. When it comes to colors, the Galaxy S20 Ultra is only available in two, while Galaxy S20 FE buyers have a choice of six colors. If aesthetics are important, the Galaxy S20 FE is worth considering, but in terms of the specs, the Galaxy S20 Ultra wins once again.

If features were the sole reason to purchase a new phone, then the Galaxy S20 Ultra is evidently the better purchase. Although not all of the feature differences will be equally beneficial to all buyers. For example, while the Galaxy S20 FE can't shoot video in 8K, Ultra users might find it hard to show their 8K photos and video on a bigger screen. Overall, for consumers looking for a premium smartphone (and can afford to pay for the best), then there are very few reasons not to go for the Galaxy S20 Ultra. However, those in the market for a more affordable alternative, that can do most of what the Ultra can do, will probably want to consider Samsung's Fan Edition Galaxy S20 instead.
