Marvel Was Right To Cut Galactus From The MCU's Phase 4

While Galactus was nearly included in MCU Phase 4, Marvel Studios ultimately made the right decision in leaving the character out. Galactus is one of Marvel's most powerful and popular villains in the comics, so the prospect of the character making his MCU debut is exciting. However, the way in which MCU Phase 4 would have used Galactus would not have done the character justice, especially for such a prominent Marvel villain. It's for the best that Galactus's introduction can now be saved for later MCU movies and TV shows.

Galactus first debuted in the pages of Fantastic Four #48, where he attempted to devour the Earth to satisfy his unending hunger. The character has since become one of Marvel's best villains, appearing in various media as an unstoppable force that often takes all the Marvel heroes working together to defeat. Galactus made his live-action debut in the non-MCU Marvel movie Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, but this version of the character received criticism for his limited screen time and lack of visibility. The failure to adapt Galactus properly is one reason why his appearance in MCU Phase 4 wouldn't have worked.

How Love & Thunder Would Have Used Galactus

Based on unused storyboards for Thor: Love and Thunder, Galactus would have made a brief cameo appearance in the movie. In the storyboards, Jane Foster is shown fighting various Marvel villains, with one panel depicting a confrontation with Galactus. It appears that the goal was to showcase Jane's powers as Thor after receiving Mjølnir, and having her defeat Galactus would certainly demonstrate her heroic accomplishments. Although it's not clear how long the scene would have been, the artwork shared by Anthony Lee Winn perfectly illustrates how engaging a fight with Galactus could be.

However, it's ultimately a good thing that this was another one of the cameos cut from Thor: Love and Thunder. Galactus is among the most powerful villains in the Marvel universe, which makes it hard to believe that Jane Foster could face him alone, especially since she wouldn't have had her powers for very long. Saving Jane's hero introduction for her reunion with Thor was a smart move, as it's more in line with the plot of the movie. Cutting Galactus's appearance also means that he can receive a better introduction later on in the MCU.

Galactus Deserves Better Than A Love & Thunder Easter Egg

Given the threat that Galactus poses, he deserves much more than a quick appearance in Thor: Love and Thunder. Galactus is one of the oldest and most powerful entities in the Marvel universe, a being who can literally devour entire worlds. He feels no remorse for the countless lives he takes, deploying loyal servants and highly advanced technology to get what he wants. All of these great elements are too much for one Thor: Love and Thunder Easter egg to handle, and leaving them out of Galactus's debut would be a disservice to the character.

Galactus deserves to be the main villain of whatever MCU project he ends up in. He could be the primary adversary of the upcoming Fantastic Four, which would harken back to his comic book roots. Galactus could also be the next MCU villain successor after Thanos and Kang, with different movies building up to an eventual showdown with all the Marvel heroes. Whenever he does make his grand debut, Galactus deserves more than what Thor: Love and Thunder had to offer, making it for the best that he didn't appear in MCU Phase 4.
