Gal Gadot is the top choice to join Dwayne Johnson in Red Notice. Both actors have come a long way since they first worked together on 2011's Fast Five. Gadot is now better known to the masses for playing Wonder Woman in the DC movie franchise and will reprise the role yet again in next year's Wonder Woman 2. Johnson, meanwhile, has worked relentlessly for the past decade and cranked out one blockbuster hit after another (most recently, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Rampage), save for the rare disappointment (Baywatch).

Unless the Fast & Furious series resurrects Gadot's character Gisele soap opera-style after her demise in Fast & Furious 6, she and Johnson won't be reuniting on that franchise in the future. However, it seems the pair could join forces yet again on another project altogether. The film in question would be Red Notice, an original venture that has Johnson attached to star and writer/director Rawson Marshall Thurber (We're the Millers) calling the shots.

THS reports that Gadot is currently Universal's "top choice" to appear opposite Johnson in Red Notice. The Rock will receive a hefty payday ($22 million, to be precise) to star in the film as an Interpol agent charged with tracking down the most wanted art thief in the world. Gadot is being eyed to play the movie's female lead - a 30-something woman - but details beyond that are unknown at this juncture.

Since Gadot is an A-lister in her own right now, it stands to reason her would-be role in Red Notice is something meaningful. She could be the top choice to play Johnson's partner in the film, similar to the role that Naomie Harris played in Rampage and the role Emily Blunt is playing in Johnson's upcoming Jungle Cruise movie. Alternatively, Universal may want Gadot to match wits with The Rock onscreen by playing the film's mysterious international crime-breaker and art aficionado.

The idea of Gadot playing a Carmen Sandiego-esque thief in Red Notice is certainly exciting, but it's best to not jump to conclusions about her role at this stage. Whatever the case may be, Gadot would be a welcome addition to the film and should be able to fit the movie into her post-Wonder Woman 2 schedule. Either way, Johnson and Thurber will be back well before then with this July's "Die Hard meets Towering Inferno" thriller Skyscraper, their second collaboration after 2016's action/comedy Central Intelligence.
