Olivia Munn is in talks to return as a host of G4TV with its relaunch. The video game and pop culture centered network first hit the cable airwaves back in 2002. After merging with TechTV in 2004, G4 brought aboard several of the acquired net’s vehicles including Screen Savers, which was later renamed to Attack of the Show!, and X-Play, which would both continue on as some of G4’s strongest and most consistent performing series. New programming ceased production on G4 in 2012, with the network officially closing up shop in 2014. That was until G4 surprisingly teased a 2021 return during last month’s Comic-Con@Home event.

As reported by The Wrap, Munn is in the stages of finalizing a multi-year deal where she would return to G4, involved in both on-air and off-air capacities. The on-air aspect of the deal may see Munn resume hosting duties, while the off-air component includes a development deal with the net.

Munn originally joined the G4 family in 2006 as host of Attack of the Show!, alongside co-host Kevin Pereira, replacing then-departing Sarah Lane. She quickly became one of the network’s biggest breakout stars before eventually transitioning into acting and departing from AOTS in 2010. Munn’s credits go on to include publishing her hit book, Suck It, Wonder Woman! The Misadventures of a Hollywood Geek, starring in The Predator, X-Men: Apocalypse, and co-starring in The Newsroom on HBO.

Munn returning home to where it all began is welcome news for many, certain to boost the nostalgia fueled excitement over G4's return. However, the television landscape, both cable and digital, has changed immensely since G4's been gone. Even a rival video game centered network, VENN (Video Game Entertainment News Network) has emerged in their absence, determined to fill the void they left. Details of Munn’s full involvement are expected to be formally announced soon, along with more specifics of the G4 relaunch, so it will be interesting to see what newness they will be bringing back to the table and what they’ve ultimately got in store for their return in 2021.
