Futurama predicted Steve Harvey's Miss Universe slip up, in a sense, many years ago. For some reason, animated shows have become notorious for their ability to "predict the future" in some way. The Simpsons has been at the center of some bold predictions that came to pass, most recently Disney's acquisition of Fox. With Futurama, Fox's animated series has shown the same tendency on a smaller scale.

These predictions are more fitting with Futurama thanks to it taking place almost one thousand years in the future, and they've made some great (and informed) calls before. Several years ago the show was responsible for "predicting" Star Wars 9's titleStar Wars 9: Yoda's Bar Mitzvah. The joke came during the height of the prequels and the inevitability of more movies down the road, even hundreds of years later.

This is just one of many predictions that Futurama made though. Screen Rant's latest video highlights several that did come true and a few that did not, but one that Futurama was nearly spot on with was, strangely enough, the events of a Miss Universe pageant. The sixth episode of season 2, "The Lesser of Two Evils," is responsible for the prediction, as it also featured the wrong person being crowned the winner of the pageant initially.

In this Futurama episode, Zapp Brannigan is the judge of the Miss Universe 3001 pageant. When it comes time to crown the winner, he sees Leela off stage and mistakingly says her name when he opens the envelope. The confusion makes Leela the winner, even though she wasn't part of the pageant at all. That is until the mistake is noticed and Gladys Lennox is rightfully crowned.

This is eerily similar to what happened to Steve Harvey in 2015 when he was hosting the Miss Universe pageant. During the ending of the real-life event, Harvey said that Miss Columbia Ariadna Gutierrez was the winner. All of the celebrations ensued until Harvey realized his mistake. As sad as it then became for Miss Columbia, his error was recognized, and Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach was rightfully crowned the victor.

The mixups by Brannigan and Harvey at a crucial moment in the event is so unlikely that it is hard not to give Futurama the points for "predicting" this event in a way. Sure, Harvey at least said the name of someone in competition and there were no aliens involved in the 2015 Miss Universe pageant. Otherwise, the chances of such a fluke happening so similarly are quite extraordinary. While this certainly wasn't a prediction Futurama tried to make, it is a fun coincidence to point out nonetheless.
