Here's what happens in the special, once-off podcast episode of Futurama, titled "Radiorama." Futurama was created by Matt Groening (The Simpsons), and follows dimwitted pizza delivery boy Fry after he's cryogenically frozen by accident and awakened in the 31st Century. He has to adjust to life in New New York and befriends a foul-mouthed robot named Bender and falls for Leela, the one-eyed captain of the Planet Express ship

Futurama was the natural successor to The Simpsons, featuring hilarious characters and it had a lot of fun with its futuristic setting. The show could also be surprisingly emotional, with season 4's "Jurassic Bark" - where Fry finds a fossilised version of his dog - ending on a heartbreaking note. Despite the acclaim that greeted the show, erratic scheduling led to Futurama suffering in the ratings, and it was cancelled during season 4. The show refused to die, however, first being resurrected with four straight-to-DVD movies and then receiving new seasons on Comedy Central, before ending once again in 2013.

A special podcast episode of Futurama - dubbed "Radiorama" - was produced for the Nerdist Podcast in 2017. This episode was designed to promote mobile title Futurama: Worlds Of Tomorrow and was penned by Matt Groening, David X. Cohen and other writers from the show. The voice cast also returned, with John DiMaggio, Billy West, and Katey Sagal (Sons Of Anarchy) reprising their roles. Radiorama is essentially a double episode of Futurama, which opens with Leela dumping Fry after he makes her a nude 3D sculpture of himself as a present, which is apparently beautiful - but since Leela has no depth perception she can't see it. The sculpture is taken to a junk planet, where Bender picks up a mysterious object that looks valuable.

Bender is later offered a chance to return to his role on robot soap opera All My Circuits, which is returning as a podcast. When he learns his mother - a robotic arm that builds bending units - is dying, he vows she must hear his podcast debut before she dies. While the podcast is being recorded the object Bender stole comes to life, and is revealed to be a device that contains over 58 billion unheard podcasts from the 21 century. This device has become sentient and is dubbed Klaxxon.

Klaxxon sinks to the centre of the Earth so it can project all the unheard podcasts at once, so the Futurama crew drill down after him as the entire planet is driven insane by the jabbering of the podcasts. They eventually stop Klaxxon and Bender attempts to perform his episode of All My Circuits for his mother, but she dies before getting to his part. That's when its revealed Klaxxon merged with her when she attempted to crush it, and they're now the same entity. Leela also forgives Fry and realises he made the sculpture because he doesn't think of her one eye as a disability or weakness as she does.

Futurama's "Radiorama" podcast is a fun novelty, with the cast delivering spirited performances and it features the occasional inspired gag and cameos from characters like Zapp Brannigan. Sadly, its lacking in genuinely great gags, and it feels like the writers focused too much on making fun of the podcast medium than crafting a story. It also features some blatant adverts for the Futurama: Worlds Of Tomorrow game, but since that's the entire reason the episode was produced, it's hard to complain about it.
