New Furiosa set photos  reveal a close look at Chris Hemsworth's character in the Mad Max: Fury Road prequel. The fifth film in George Miller's Mad Max cinematic universe, Furiosa serves both as a prequel to and a spinoff of the 2015 film Mad Max: Fury Road, which starred Charlize Theron as Imperator Furiosa. The prequel movie focuses on the early years of the character, as she is taken away from the Green Place of Many Mothers and stranded amongst a hostile biker horde. Anya Taylor-Joy is leading Furiosa in the title role, with Hemsworth and Tom Burke co-starring.

So far, there has been no word about the characters Hemsworth and Burke are playing. The Furiosa movie plot synopsis has detailed the film will chart the rivalry between two tyrants, the nightmarish franchise villain Immortan Joe and the fierce Warlord Dementus, as they vie for control over the Wasteland and Citadel. Due to Burke's resemblance to a young Immortan Joe, whose adult version was played by the late Hugh Keays-Byrne, it's being speculated that he will play the antagonist, while Hemsworth would portray the other primary villain, Dementus. This hasn't been officially confirmed, although persistent updates all seem to suggest to the same idea.

Now, new set photos surface from the filming location of Furiosa, and they offer the much-anticipated look at Hemsworth's mystery character from the prequel. Shared by The Daily Mail, the new images spotlight Hemsworth as he looks terrifying and almost unrecognizable, having embraced a thick burgundy beard and prosthetic nose. It's hard to get a good look at Hemsworth's costume, though, as he is sporting a long coat covering his overalls. See the images shared by Twitter user Film Updates in the space below:

While the pictures don't necessarily confirm Hemsworth's Furiosa villain character, they do make it sufficiently clear that MCU's God of Thunder will be heavily involved with the post-apocalyptic biker gangs in the Mad Max: Fury Road prequel. Among the set images, there is one photo where Hemsworth is flashing his signature brawny build. In that image, it looks as if he is wearing leather pants along with a cape, which ideally supports his Dementus casting theory. But the poor image quality limits the amount of information that can be discerned.

Regardless of the character Hemsworth is playing in Furiosa, he will still have a dominant presence on screen, and his character will be closely attached to all the action that will go on. As the images show, Furiosa has an unmistakably dystopian tone, which is characteristic of the Mad Max films, and steampunk-style vehicles and motorbikes are abundant across the sets. The actors surrounding Hemsworth, additionally, all channel brutal and rowdy vibes, as they flaunt their full-body paint, gothic piercings, and weapons. There are also some other female actors dressed in rags, which signifies that Furiosa is bringing back the classic Mad Max themes of oppression, feminism, and vengeance, with the subject of survival and humanity being explored in a different light. How Hemsworth fits into all these storylines remains to be seen, and considering Furiosa's release is still two years away, it will be some time before viewers can find out for certain.
