Furiosa star Anya Taylor-Joy recently teased a very bloody Mad Max prequel movie. George Miller returns to direct the fifth entry in the Mad Max franchise, a spinoff of the critically-acclaimed post-apocalyptic non-stop action film, Mad Max: Fury Road. Taylor-Joy stars as the titular character, Immortan Joe's (Hugh Keays-Byrne) one-armed war captain, previously played by Charlize Theron. The upcoming prequel will tell Furiosa's origin story, depicting how she was stolen from the Green Place of Many Mothers, taken across the scorched Wasteland, and forced to survive at the Citadel.

In a recent interview with IndieWire, Taylor-Joy teased that the Mad Max prequel, Furiosa, will be brutal. The actor claimed that filming the movie left her the "bloodiest" she has ever been on any set in her career, a feat she is rather proud of. Read what Taylor-Joy said below:

“It’s the dirtiest and the bloodiest I have ever been, which is saying something, genuinely saying something. Any time I get to be dirty or bloody and not perfectly prim and pretty, I’m just having a ball, that’s where I feel most comfortable. So yeah, ‘Furiosa’ was definitely right up my street.”

How A Bloody Furiosa Will Change Mad Max Formula

Charlize Theron as Furiosa screaming

Taylor-Joy's comment hint at a bloody prequel, filled with savage acts, fierce fights, and gory deaths. Although the franchise hasn't shied away from violence, as seen with the brutal marauders in The Road Warrior and Immortan Joe's demise in Mad Max: Fury Road, the majority of the franchise's action centered around vehicular action. Car chases have been the franchise's bread and butter with each of the four films' third acts being a long chase scene filled with cars, trucks, and even a train.

Mad Max: Fury Road established Furiosa as a tough fighter who took on a tyrannical warlord and survived the relentless pursuit by his loyal army. The upcoming prequel will likely see the future warrior as a timid victim of brutal survivors and faced with challenges that will test her mettle, forcing her to either fight or die. Choosing the former, Furiosa will be challenged and beaten down in order for her to learn to stand on her own feet and become the most courageous war captain in Immortan Joe's legion.

Everything We Know About Furiosa

Former professional wrestler, Nathan Jones, has signed on to reprise his Mad Max: Fury Road role as Immortan Joe's son, Rictus Erectus. Thor's Chris Hemsworth has also joined the cast as an undisclosed villain, a character that the actor has called complex and "evil." In a franchise famous for its vehicular action, Taylor-Joy recently revealed that she was cast without knowing how to drive, and though she received stunt driving training for the Mad Max prequel, she has yet to attain her driver's license. With Furiosa set to land in theaters May 24, 2024, audiences will have to wait a long time to see just how bloody Taylor-Joy gets.
