Cyberpunk 2077 had a very strange release, as it was delayed by years while at the same time being rushed. The game was too ambitious for its own good, which led to so many bugs and glitches that it made millions of gamers demand refunds, and Sony even removed it from the PlayStation Store.

It made for not only one of the most infamous video game releases of all time, but one of the most memed to death video games in history, too. Between making fun of all of the glitches, criticizing the release strategy, and having way too much fun with the over-the-top player customization options, the memes are almost as entertaining as playing the game.

Johnny Silverhand In Skate 3

One of the biggest selling points of Cyberpunk 2077 leading up to its release was just how involved Keanu Reeves was. Cyberpunk is one of the many video games Reeves has appeared in, but he’s never been so associated with a game than he has with 2077. In the game, Reeves plays Johnny Silverhand, has long dark locks, and wears a black vest. One gamer hilariously created a character in Skate 3 that looks almost identical to Silverhand.

The Matrix Meets Cyberpunk

There is absolutely no doubt that CD Projekt Red was clearly influenced by many different Keanu Reeves projects. The character’s name is likely based on Johnny Utah from Point Break, and the character looks like if John Wick smoked way too many cigarettes.

But, one gamer makes light of one glitch by comparing it to the biggest Keanu Reeves movie of them all, The Matrix. The cigarette is clearly supposed to be in Silverhand’s hand, but it’s floating in the air in front of his face. The gamer claims it isn’t a glitch, instead being done through the power of thought, just like Neo.

Regina George

Gamers can say what they want about Cyberpunk 2077, and most of it is probably justified, but there’s no denying just how dense the customization gets when it comes to suiting and booting the playable characters.

But, one Twitter user has found a fantastic and surprising parallel between the sci-fi video game and the 2000s comedy Mean Girls. In the movie, Regina George’s wardrobe malfunction looks a lot like one of the wardrobe options in the game, and the bra and tank top color combo is definitely available in Cyberpunk.

Enjoying The Game Despite The Bugs

The bugs and performance issues are what held the game back from being game of the year material, and, depending on what platform the game was played on, it was almost unplayable. Though the bugs are being fixed by CD Projekt Red slowly but surely, there are some fans of the game that welcome the bugs. Using an adorable pug to mock the gamers who aren’t able to enjoy the game as much as them, it’s almost antagonizing.

Being Removed From The PlayStation Store

Very shortly after its release, when all of the in-game problems were coming to light from players, everyone who had bought the game digitally on the PlayStation Store understandably wanted refunds.

After the uproar, Sony eventually removed the game from the store to avoid any more problems, but there are a select few who think it should have stayed on there. This hilarious meme, which brilliantly uses SpongBob SquarePants screenshots, points the finger at the hypocrites who demanded a refund and then got angry at Sony for removing it from the store.

The Game Wasn’t Delayed, But Was Released Decades Ahead Of Schedule

This user makes light of the game’s name and that it came out decades early, pretending that the title has the same format as FIFA or Madden games where the year of its release is in the title. What makes it even funnier is that the game was actually delayed by years.

The game was originally announced all the way back in 2012, and the first teaser was revealed in 2013. Then, the first target release was in 2015, but it wasn’t until five years later when it finally hit shelves, only to be pulled off them a couple of days later. There’s also an ingenious image of Ross with one of his funniest line from Friends, which comes just in time for the reunion too.

A Surprising Pandemic Cosplay

Being a video game that’s influenced by movies like Blade Runner, there are some visually stunning futuristic moments in Cyberpunk, along with some incredibly strange fashion choices. Wearing both a face mask and a face protector that looks neon red, along with a vivid yellow jacket, this Spanish citizen is seemingly inadvertently cosplaying as a Cyberpunk 2077 character. But, what’s even more clever is that the Twitter user places the title over the top of the image, making it into an impromptu gaming cosplay.

Harry Osbourne Runs CD Projekt Red

Yet again commenting on the bugs and glitches that are riddled throughout Cyberpunk 2077, this meme is almost the best of them all, as it uses a perfectly apt screenshot and caption from Spider-Man 2.

In the movie, when Harry Osbourne finds Doctor Octopus in his lair working away on his sustained fusion experiment, it all goes awry. Harry starts screaming to shut it off, and the Twitter user compares it to when Projekt Red stumbled on a part of the game that hasn’t been properly rendered.

The... Endless Customization Options

As if customizing the character to look like Regina George’s wardrobe malfunction wasn’t embarrassing enough, the weird options don’t end there. There are a ton of ridiculous mods that have quickly been built for the game, but for the first time ever, they might not actually be as ridiculous as what’s in the actual game.

There’s an option that allows players to choose the length of their character’s Johnson. Though it’s completely unnecessary, it’s impossible not to take a quick look, but the last thing gamers would want is their parents to walk in at that very moment.

Getting Delayed To The Point Where It’s Set In The Past

With all the delays that happened throughout the development of Cyberpunk 2077, as the time between being announced and finally getting released was eight years, fans are lucky they even got it when they did. However, the end product wasn’t very polished, and it could have done with being delayed even longer. One Twitter user ponders the idea of the game being delayed for another 57 years at least when players are actually living in the world that Projekt Red are struggling to create digitally.
