Square Enix announced a collaboration event earlier today between Fullmetal Alchemist and Final Fantasy Brave Exvius that will bring the anime characters in-game for players to add to their team. Final Fantasy Brave Exvius is Square Enix's most popular iteration of the franchise on mobile, with a history of high-profile crossover events like the infamous Ariana Grande one from last year that have helped keep the game in headlines even if it's not as popular as a Final Fantasy mainline title proper.

With Brave Exvius already in the headlines thanks to a strong launch from War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius on mobile yesterday, Square Enix is dramatically improving the company's mobile game offerings heading into the summer of 2020. While Square Enix has found success with mobile ports of classic Final Fantasy games, the publisher has had a bit more trouble with new IPs, although Brave Exvius has managed to resonate with Japanese audiences and garner a cult following in the west. War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius has been just as successful in Japan as the game that inspired it, but given its strong resemblance to Final Fantasy Tactics, the game might also find unexpected traction elsewhere, which makes it a great time to add more content to Brave Exvius as well.

Square Enix announced that it would be hosting an incredible collaboration event on Final Fantasy Brave Exvius which will see the game crossover with the best-selling manga series Fullmetal Alchemist BrotherhoodBrotherhood is one of the most popular manga and anime series of  all time, and the Fullmetal Alchemist and Final Fantasy crossover event will add protagonists Edward and Alphonse Elric on top of some of the other popular characters as summons. Players will also receive Winry Rockbell just for logging in each day, while Final Fantasy Brave Exvius will also add new raid bosses like Fuhrer King Bradley for players to battle.

FFBE Fullmetal Alchemist Crossover

It's another major collaboration event for a game that has had its fair share of them. Fullmetal Alchemist remains an iconic series across the world, and its reach could very well introduce a lot more players to Square Enix's Final Fantasy mobile title. It will also be interesting to see if the company plans to host similar crossover events - perhaps with the same franchises, even - for the newer War of the Visions: FFBE, which has launched in the west with a Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers crossover event already.

Having a Fullmetal Alchemist and Final Fantasy mashup has been the stuff of fantasy for a lot of manga, anime, and video game fans - for a long time, too. The fact it's happening on a less ubiquitous Final Fantasy platform doesn't close the door on bigger future collaborations, though, with Final Fantasy XIV a potentially juicy landing spot for more mashups.
