Netflix's Fuller House season 6 would've put a significant focus on Stephanie's (Jodie Sweetin) kid, Danielle. Season 4 ended with Kimmy (Andrea Barber) giving birth to her brother, Jimmy (Adam Hagenbuch), and Stephanie's baby girl after serving as the couple's surrogate. The Full House spin-off held out on naming the kid until the start of its final season, with the parents mining inspiration from her dad, Danny (Bob Saget) and sister, DJ's (Candace Cameron-Bure) names.
After the initial excitement over the baby's arrival, she's almost a non-factor for the rest of Fuller House season 5. Except for some sporadic appearances and crying sounds, Fuller House didn't care much to incorporate it in the season's narrative. It turns out, this was by design as the series creatives were planning to feature her prominently in their expected sixth season. However, due to its cancelation, that won't happen anymore.
Speaking with Insider, Cameron-Bure, who also served as a producer for Fuller House, revealed that they were expecting another season order from Netflix, ending the show with six seasons instead of five. While she doesn't know the specific reason the streaming service pulled the plug on their show a year early, she reveals some planned story points for the scrapped season 6, which include focusing on Danielle and chronicling Stephanie's surprise pregnancy announced during the finale.
Well, the thought or the intent behind all of us was that it was going to go six seasons. And I mean, we were thrilled that we had five. I know there was some disappointment though that we didn’t have the sixth season, but there are other network reasons, we aren’t privy to that information, as to why they made that decision one season early.
I think there are still so many stories that could be told in the Fuller house, especially with all of them being married, and then [with them] still living under the same roof together. I think there’s so much more, but the fact that we didn’t highlight Dani, Stephanie’s baby, very much in season five, to me that was a bit disappointing. We understand why they didn’t, but that was something that I would have wanted to see in season six, her truly raising a baby. And then we find out she’s pregnant again at the end. And I would have liked to have seen a lot more storylines with the kids and particularly the babies because I think that’s something that was so special in “Full House” because you actually saw the stages and growth from an infant into a toddler.
Truth be told, one of the main reasons Fuller House failed to capture the same interest as Full House is because of its lacking focus on their young characters. As Cameron-Bure said herself, it was interesting to see DJ, Stephanie, Michelle (Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen), and Kimmy (Andrea Barber) grow up year after year. Michelle, in particular, was fascinating to watch considering she started on the original show as a baby. Instead, the spin-off show focused on the lives of the older characters - their work issues and personal problems. Granted there are children-centric plots, but they're mostly B-storylines. This problem is front and center in the final season as Fuller House doesn't even actively include Danielle in any storyline. In fact, there's not even any narrative that fully tackles Stephanie adjusting to becoming a mom.
Netflix announced that Fuller House is ending with five seasons early last year, with filming not starting until several months later. This means that they could've incorporated more of her into their stories. The show's final season also had a similar problem when it came to Michelle as the character wasn't even involved in the wedding of her sisters. While the Olsen twins refuse to reprise their Full House characters, the spin-off could've at least provided an in-narrative explanation of why she's not there.
