Fuller House's Kimmy and Fernando has a weird wedding tradition. The Tanners' long-time neighbor finally moved into the iconic San Francisco home in the Netflix spin-off to help DJ raise her kids following the death of her husband. With that, she becomes much more prominent in the Full House follow-up, getting her own arc that was developed throughout the show's five-year run.

Instead of coming up with a premise of their own, Fuller House basically just recycled the core narrative of its parent series with DJ going through the horrendous experience of being widowed at a young age and left to care for three young children as Danny. Stephanie and Kimmy then moved in with her as Jesse and Joey did in Full House to help raise the Tanner kids. But duo to Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's refusal to revisit their acting days and reprise their role as Michelle, the Netflix show turned to Kimmy as a replacement.

Essentially promoted to be a primary cast member and an adopted Tanner family member, Fuller House had to give Kimmy her own story, so it introduced her daughter and husband. When the show started, however, this Fuller House family's dynamic was odd — Kimmy and Fernando were split up after the latter cheated. Specifics of what really went down were never fully tackled, but the idea was that Fernando was trying to get his ex-wife back. After a series of dating snafu, the pair ultimately got back together and attempted to re-marry the first time in the season 1 finale. That didn't work leaving them engaged for the rest of the show until they tied the knot in the series finale. Interestingly, every single time they walked down the aisle, they would always add another couple to the ceremony — although unlike usual traditions, this may not be intentional, especially in the case of the Fuller House series finale.

Fuller House never showed Kimmy and Fernando's first wedding, but the idea was that they had a conventional ceremony, with the focus solely on them. When they attempted to re-marry in the season 1 finale, it was also during Jesse and Becky's own renewal of vows. Granted that Kimmy backed out at the last minute after she realized she didn't want to live her and Ramona's life in the racing circuit, the couple was all dolled up and ready to get hitched. When they revisited the idea four seasons after, the wedding was so much bigger with two more brides walking down the aisle aside from Kimmy. Both DJ and Stephanie decided to marry at the same time as their long time neighbor-turned-roommate in a triple wedding ceremony. The Tanner sisters tied the knot to Steve and Jimmy Gibbler, respectively, while Kimmy finally re-committed to Fernando following his retirement from racing.

Ultimately, delaying getting married proved to be for the best for Kimmy and Fernando. Aside from having the time to get to know each other better operating as a dating couple, it also gave Kimmy the opportunity to share the moment with her brother Jimmy who also tied the knot with Stephanie. Aside from that, it also allowed everyone else to warm up to Fernando, making it easier for him to move into the Tanner family home with his family at the end of Fuller House.
