Each of the friendships in Fruits Basket is special in its own way. While they are all different, several relationships stand out as being truly touching and are loved by fans for their uniqueness, sincerity, and unconditional sense of support.

Momiji And Haru

Momiji and Haru are very different

Although Momiji's and Haru's personalities are polar opposites they are still very close friends. They are the same age and are frequently seen together both in and out of class.

Haru looks after Momiji and is very perceptive at realizing when Momiji is not feeling his best. Similarly, Momiji acts as Haru's emotional release, allowing Haru to be himself and not pushing him to act a certain way. They are certainly an odd couple but they also balance each other, and that's why they are such good friends.

Kyo And Arisa

Kyo and Arisa fight constantly because their personalities are so similar. They are both loud, and abrasive, and their aggressive natures entice them to bicker and argue with one another. Arisa likes to pick on Kyo for his orange hair, while Kyo makes fun of Arisa's gangster background. Although the two often tease each other, their ability to tolerate each others' taunts shows comfortable they are together.

Their interactions during the Cinderella-ish play are some of the most hilarious scenes in the series, as they demonstrate great comedic timing and chemistry. Kyo and Arisa are rough around the edges, but every once in a while they show genuine care for each other, and those moments are priceless.

Tohru And Rin

Through these small acts of kindness, Rin learns to accept Tohru as a friend and eventually grows very protective of her.

Yuki And Ayame

Ayame leads an embarrassed Yuki

When they were children, Yuki and Ayame were not very close. Ayame ignored Yuki's suffering at the hands of Akito and their parents, and for years the two brothers were estranged from one another. To amend for his past mistakes, Ayame begins to make an effort to bond with his younger brother.

Initially, Yuki can't stand Ayame's flamboyant expressions of brotherly love, but over time Ayame's personality and actions grow on Yuki. During Yuki's parent-teacher conference, Ayame stands up to their mother and acts as Yuki's guardian. While Yuki acts embarrassed, he ends up thanking his older brother and admits that he is not a total screwup.

Kyo And Haru

Ever since they were young, Kyo and Karu have been friends. Haru was one of the few people who did not ostracize Kyo, and while Haru can get on Kyo's nerves, the two are close friends. The two enjoy fighting with one another because Haru views Kyo as his rival, and is determined to beat him in a martial arts match, much like Kyo is determined to defeat Yuki.

While he can be blunt with Kyo at times, Haru does not look down on Kyo or judge him, and in many ways, the two of them are very similar. Kyo may complain when Haru's "Black Haru" personality comes up, but he is always upfront with Haru and respects him for his honesty and drive.

However, over time, Kazuma grows to genuinely care for Kyo, treats him as his own son. Kazuma refuses to accept Kyo's destiny to be imprisoned, and constantly advocates for and protects Kyo.

Kyo idolizes Kazuma as his martial arts master and considers him a father figure. More than anyone else, Kyo listens to what Kazuma has to say and deeply respects his opinion. Although their initial relationship was founded on shame, their friendship grows into an authentic love for one another.

Yuki And Haru

When they were children, Haru hated Yuki, because he believed people made fun of him because the Rat tricked the Ox in the Zodiac legend. One day, Haru confronted Yuki, and Yuki asked if he really thought he was a fool, to which Haru insisted he wasn't. Yuki agreed, and from that day on Haru acts completely devoted to Yuki.

Haru sees Yuki for who he is truly is, and notices when Yuki feels alone or in pain. More than anyone else, Haru helps Yuki before Tohru's arrival and is the one who convinces Shigure to take Yuki into his home. Arisa is the tough one who protects the others, particularly Tohru, and acts like the confidant big sister. Saki may be quiet and dark, but she is completely devoted to her friends and makes no secret of her love for Tohru.

Meanwhile, Tohru completely accepts her oddball friends for all their quirks, whether it's Arisa's gangster persona or Saki's psychic powers. Tohru views Arisa and Saki as the parents she lost, and her friends support and care for her in every way possible. Their friendship is one of the strongest and most genuine in the series and provides fans with endless delight.
