Frozen 3 still has not been discussed at Disney. The Frozen franchise first burst into the pop culture arena in 2013 and quickly became another smash hit for Disney. Thanks to its infectious songs ("Let It Go" is still very, very popular) and heartwarming story of sisters Elsa (Idina Menzel) and Anna (Kristen Bell), Frozen resonated with audiences on its way to $1.2 billion worldwide and two Academy Awards. The sequel was inevitable and finally arrived last year. While Frozen 2 wasn't quite as well-received critically as its predecessor, it was a massive financial hit; back in January, it became the highest-grossing animated movie of all time.

With both Frozen and Frozen 2 becoming cultural phenomenons, a Frozen 3 seems like it won't be far behind. So far, however, Disney hasn't announced anything official is happening. Josh Gad, who voices lovable snowman Olaf, recently said he isn't aware of any plans so far, but also didn't write off the possibility entirely. Frozen 2's directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee similarly said they had no immediate plans for a third film, but they also acknowledged it could happen in the future.

So far, it sounds like Frozen 3 remains a distant possibility. Marc Smith, who served as the director of story for Frozen 2, spoke with Collider about the making of that film and the franchise's potential future. When asked if there's any interest in a Frozen 3, Smith simply said, "We have not had that discussion. I think Frozen 2 is still too close to everyone’s minds and ideas to, to think about what happens beyond, beyond that."

Frozen 2 - Elsa and Bruni

Considering how long it took for Frozen 2 to actually come about, it'll probably take some time before Frozen 3 is actually released. Just because nothing is happening right now doesn't mean it never will, even though many might see Elsa and Anna's stories as being sufficiently wrapped up. After all, this is Disney, and Disney likes to continue their most successful properties. For example, Toy Story 3 seemed like it concluded the franchise perfectly in 2010, but just last year saw the release of Toy Story 4.

Odds are, Disney is currently enjoying the wave of Frozen 2 before moving onto their next step. While Frozen 2 was released back in November, it is still producing new content. Just last week, a special six-part documentary series was released on Disney+ that explores the behind the scenes process that went into Frozen 2. Plus, Gad recently returned as Olaf for a series of digital shorts. It might take some time for the dust to settle after Frozen 2, but once it clears up, the road might be wide open for Frozen 3Fans just have to be patient for a little bit longer.
