Ever since Frozen 2's release, its directors and cast have been asked about the possibility of a Frozen 3 movie. The first Frozen experienced an unanticipated level of success as millions of children worldwide listened to Elsa's anthem "Let It Go" on repeat. The hype still had not died down by the time Frozen 2 came out six years later, and even though several years have passed since then, the movie's actors still field questions about potential Frozen 3 updates.

Although there have been no official updates on Frozen 3, the Frozen franchise has remained busy nonetheless. In addition to its two feature-length films, Disney released the Frozen Fever and Olaf Presents shorts, adapted Frozen into a Broadway show, and even released a music video for an Anna/Elsa duet cut from the sequel movie. These projects have proven that the Frozen fanbase is not only alive but thriving and continues to eagerly await any news about a third movie.

Yet, even if such an announcement were to come, Frozen 3 likely would not be released for some time. Directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck famously took their time with Frozen 2's development, and production would also have to factor in its actors' ever-busy schedules. Such logistics have not deterred interviewers from asking about updates, however. Here's what each actor and director has said about returning for Frozen 3.

What Kristen Bell Has Said About Frozen 3

Kristen Bell's enthusiasm for the Frozen movie franchise could be the key to making Frozen 3 happen. Bell, who voices Anna, appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show shortly after Frozen 2's premiere to express how much she loves the movies and would jump at the chance to make more. Bell jokingly announced that she would make a Frozen 3, 4, and 5 regardless of whether or not Disney was on board with it, saying, "I'll be showing up, and I'll be in the booth regardless, so let's do it!" If Bell maintains that level of excitement for the characters, she could indeed be influential in getting Frozen 3 off the ground since director Jennifer Lee has previously expressed how "instrumental" Bell was in developing Anna's story and music for the sequel.

What Jennifer Lee Has Said About Frozen 3

Anna talking to Olaf and Kristoff in Frozen.

In the wake of Frozen 2's success, writer and director Jennifer Lee felt that Elsa and Anna's story had been told. She explained (via Deadline):

"I'm still in that overwhelming position of, our kids just went out to the world. Everything feels final, but also bittersweet. Time will tell if we have more story to tell, or if anyone even wants it. So, there you have it. Right now, I feel very done."

It was much harder to make the sequel compared to the first movie, and Lee clearly feels that Frozen 3 would likely be that much more difficult to create, making her hesitant to even consider such a project. Yet Lee and her co-director Chris Buck have also reiterated a never-say-never attitude towards the franchise. Lee made it clear that if a good story idea for Frozen 3 came along, she would be open to pursuing it, and Kristen Bell's support for continuing the franchise may just be the spark that Lee needs. According to Lee, coming up with a story compelling enough to make another movie would be the greatest hurdle, and if Bell had a good enough idea to get the studio on board, they just might move forward with it.

What Chris Buck Has Said About Frozen 3

Frozen 2013 Anna Elsa Ending

Chris Buck has shared his co-director's sentiments about Frozen 3. To him, Frozen and Frozen 2 told one complete story. He told Insider: "A lot of things in 'Frozen 2' answer some of the questions in 'Frozen,' or questions you didn't know about." In other words, there were no more questions they had left to pursue. That may seem unpromising on the surface, but both Lee and Buck have left their thoughts on Frozen 3 open-ended for a reason. All they appear certain about is that if a third Frozen were to be made, it would not be for some time. Of course, there was also a significant time gap between the first and second movies, and that did nothing to lessen the excitement for the sequel when it eventually came out.

What Josh Gad Has Said About Frozen 3

Olaf reenacts Frozen 2 in Olaf Presents

Josh Gad has expressed similar sentiments about Frozen 3. Two years after the sequel's release, Gad, who voices Olaf, said that Frozen 3 would not happen unless it had a reason to exist: "I trust this team with all my heart to believe that unless they have an amazing idea, there's just no need." However, Gad would likely say yes if such an idea for Frozen 3 came along. He has remained involved with that world since Frozen 2 came out and once more voiced Olaf for the Disney+ series Olaf Presents, a collection of shorts featuring the loveable snowman.

What Jonathan Groff Has Said About Frozen 3

In April 2022, Jonathan Groff, the voice of Kristoff, also spoke about the possibility of a Frozen 3. Groff appeared on The Tonight Show to promote some of his projects and also discussed the potential of continuing Netflix's Mindhunter series as well as the Frozen franchise. On that topic, he said, "I feel like, even though those projects seem very different, Frozen and Mindhunter, I feel like a third Frozen and a third season of Mindhunter are equally possible." Fans of Mindhunter have been eagerly awaiting news of a season 3, just as many continue hoping for another Frozen movie, and Groff seems to think both are still a viable possibility.

What Idina Menzel Has Said About Frozen 3

Elsa Frozen Two White Ice Spirit Outfit

Idina Menzel's thoughts on a potential Frozen 3 have always been positive, though she was initially hesitant about returning to the role of Elsa too quickly. Menzel has previously praised the six-year gap between the two films as a major factor in Frozen 2's success, suggesting she would favor a similar break before working on another installment. Yet three years was evidently enough time for her to miss the ice princess, with the actress recently expressing (via People) how much she would love the chance to voice Elsa again. Menzel did not have any new information about Frozen 3 when asked, but said that she hoped plans were in the works: "Anytime I can be 80 and play a blonde animated girl who is, like, 15 — who has amazing arms, by the way, I love that about her." While she didn't necessarily have any new details to share about the movie's likelihood of being made, her enthusiasm for the role means a sequel to Frozen 2 remains possible, even if it was not made for some time. If nothing else, the franchise has certainly been profitable enough to encourage a Frozen 3.
