Since her first appearance in Frozen, fans have wondered if Anna would ever get powers - and Frozen 3 may reveal that she has had them all along. The third film in the wildly popular Disney franchise is expected to wrap up the series as a trilogy, so it's hoped that all the big questions will be laid to rest. It's been clear since the first Frozen movie that Anna and Elsa share a powerful connection. Then, Frozen 2 confirmed this by placing the sisters within a metaphor of a bridge with two sides, so it follows that both should have powers.

Frozen 2 dived into the origin of Elsa's powers and found that she had been granted such a gift because her mother, Iduna, a Northuldrean, had saved her father, Agnarr, an Arendellian. This made Elsa uniquely equipped to make amends for the mistakes of her grandfather, King Runeard, and end the curse resulting from the conflict between the two nations. However, as Elsa herself pointed out at the conclusion of Frozen 2, Iduna and Agnarr had two children, and Anna's part was equally as critical, but not in the way many would think.

Frozen 3 Could Reveal That Anna’s Powers Support Elsa’s

With Frozen 3 expected to conclude the franchise, it may be the last chance to introduce Anna's own magical ability. However, if the younger sister does indeed have powers, evidence from past films supports that they won't be as overt as Elsa's. Instead of being able to control fire or other such elements (there's already a fire spirit in Frozen 2), it seems more likely that Anna's magic works as a sort of support for Elsa's.

So, Anna may never be able to conjure elements, make objects move with her mind, teleport, or perform any other obvious kinds of magic. From the outside, she may always look entirely ordinary (in the best way), but she may be a sort of conduit for her sister's magic. The past films have supported this, both in how Elsa described their relationship as the two sides of the bridge that make up the fifth spirit and in how Elsa's power responds to her sister.

Frozen 1 Showed That Anna Was The Key To Elsa Controlling Her Powers

When the young Anna and Elsa were introduced in the original Frozen movie, the future Snow Queen had great control over her powers. With Anna by her side, Elsa turned the ballroom into a winter wonderland without hesitation. However, when they were separated, she rapidly lost control of her powers. Sure, they were still in close proximity to one another, but their emotional connection had been severed. The plot of Frozen implied that this had a lot to do with Elsa's fear, but there could have been even more to it.

When Elsa had her big "Let It Go" moment in Frozen, she performed more extraordinary magic than she could have imagined. Of course, this had much to do with the queen's decision to "let go" of her fears but this wasn't enough for her to gain complete control of her powers. She still had no idea how to undo the devastation she had caused in Arendelle. Only after Anna sacrificed herself for her sister did Elsa find that power within herself. The love of her sister - and their special connection - was at the very center of the magic.

A Magical Connection Could Be A Problem For Anna & Elsa’s Separation

The importance of Anna regarding Elsa's power is again seen in Frozen 2 when the younger sister's actions allowed the queen to become unfrozen and released from Ahtohallan. This further supports the idea that Anna possesses a mysterious power fundamentally related to Elsa's, but this could mean a problem going into Frozen 3. The end of the previous film showed Anna becoming queen of Arendelle while Elsa stayed in Northuldra. Still, though they are separated, their hearts are very much in synch - so Elsa's powers should be safe so long as it stays that way.

However, if another conflict arose between Arendelle and Northuldra, the sister's connection could falter. The nations had been at war with one another in recent history, with many Arendelle soldiers - and even the King - having lost their lives in the terrible battle. It could be in Frozen 3 that some residents of Arendelle won't be thrilled that their queen left for an "enemy" nation, and chaos could therefore ensure. If Anna and Elsa are placed in the middle of this, and their relationship tested as a result, it may become apparent that without Anna, the Snow Queen's powers just won't be the same.
