Audiences can't seem to get enough of multiverse tales in TV and film, and the sci-fi cult hit, Fringe, whose parallel world storyline was a hallmark of the series, has great potential to set up the perfect reboot of the show. Airing from 2008 to 2013, Fringe centers on the work of the fictional Fringe Division of the FBI. Division members Agent Olivia Dunham, scientist Dr. Walter Bishop and Walter's estranged son Peter Bishop, a jack-of-all-trades routinely investigated bizarre cases revolving around fringe science subjects like mind control, teleportation, genetic mutation, invisibility and reanimation.

One of the major plot threads of Fringe was the discovery of a parallel universe that mostly mirrored our own, the one that the main characters inhabited, with some significant differences: The World Trade Center is still standing following the September 11 terrorist attacks and President John F. Kennedy survived his assassination. Since the idea of alternate universes was well established in the series, it wouldn't be inconceivable for a Fringe reboot to be set in yet another reality.

A Fringe reboot that occurs in a separate timeline would allow for a lot of creativity such as a brand-new story and cast. Characters from the reboot could even encounter their doppelgängers in yet another universe. Also, as it's been known to happen in recently rebooted TV shows, the Fringe reboot could feature cameos from the original Fringe cast, creating the perfect blend of the old series and the new one.

The reboot also has the potential for showing audiences the future of Olivia and Peter's daughter Etta Bishop and how the dystopia of 2036 was changed when Etta, Olivia, Peter and Walter defeated the Observers, an advanced technological species who had invaded the planet. Another intriguing plot for the Fringe reboot would be the story of what happened, during the series finale, when Walter traveled to 2167 to stop a human genetic experiment that led to the creation of the Observers.

The parallel universe in Fringe, also referred to by characters as The Walternate Universe, was just one that Walter and his colleague William Bell located. There are certainly more to be found due to Walter's explanation that because people are presented with numerous choices each day, a new universe is created based on the choices that are made and not made. With so many possibilities for multi-verses, different characters and stories, a Fringe reboot that seizes on the popularity of alternate realities could be a huge hit with viewers.
