The cult classic film Fright Night is finally getting a proper sequel in the form of a comic book follow-up helmed by the original movie's writer/director Tom Holland (not that one). The series, coming from publisher American Mythology Productions, will reportedly pick up the story one year after the original movie.

Released in 1985, Fright Night was the brainchild of Holland and followed teenager Charley Brewster, a horror movie obsessive who learns that his neighbor, Jerry Dandrige, is a vampire. With no other options, Charley is left to take matters into his own hands to defeat this vampiric threat, enlisting the help of horror movie host/vampire hunter Peter Vincent to help save the day. The horror/comedy has gained somewhat of a cult following over the years, and while there was already a Fright Night 2 released in 1988 - as well as a 2011 remake starring Colin Farrell and the late Anton Yelchin - Holland didn't return for any of those projects. But now, Holland is giving fans an official, canonical sequel to the original film in the form of a comic book.

According to a report from GamesRadar, the survivors from the first movie will continue their vampire-hunting adventures, and the entire project is being overseen by Holland himself, giving fans the proper sequel they didn't know they needed. GamesRadar reports that Holland considers this to be the one and only true sequel to the original film. The series, set to debut on November 24, will be written by James Kuhoric and feature art by Cyrus Mesarcia.

This actually isn't the first time the world of Fright Night has graced comic book pages. From 1988 to 1990, Now Comics published a Fright Night series that also furthered the adventures of Charley and Peter. Those books are hard to come by now - even on digital platforms - so this upcoming release may be exactly what's needed to scratch any Fright Night fan's comic book itch.

Fright Night was met with moderate critical and commercial success when it was released nearly four decades ago and has since developed quite a fandom. And while it never got the genuine cinematic sequel it probably deserved, creator Tom Holland and American Mythology Productions are bringing Fright Night fans the next best thing.
